Hi,
I have a somewhat unusual request. I am moving to Thailand in the beginning of January and I cannot bring EVERYTHING with me obviously. I require a pipe stand but the ones I have just won't make the grade in luggage. I need something that I need to put together once I get there. So the packaging will save space and it won't fall apart.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Do you want a proper stand or something that'll work as a makeshift one?

Do you want a proper stand or something that'll work as a makeshift one? Right, I am looking for something like what I've seen in a few friends houses. Usually theyre made out of pear or pine. Then they had little ikea-type metal posts that held up each piece of wood in the tiers. Held 8-15 pipes depending on which one. They told me they were cheap but had no idea where to find one now because they bought it in the middle of the last century

I just made one this weekend, but it's just a rough one. If I had a finished product that I was 100% happy with I could drill holes and put pegs in it. My measurements are a little off on this one, but it gives me a better idea on what I need to do on the next.
I was looking for something similar a few weeks ago but couldn't find one.

I would suggest once you move to Thailand, get settled in pick yourself up some wood and make your own. The link below is how to make a simple pipe rack cheap.....just in case you move back to the States sooner than you think!?!?!?
Oh, do I have stories about Thailand, I’d never put in writing!! There was a well known announcer for one of the top TV game shows that traveled to Thailand for his tailored suits plus a few other illegal acts which he should have been put in jail for life! God called his number fairly early in his life!!
I’ve been to Thailand a couple of times, of course Bangkok as well as Pattaya and a few small cities in between. Also the stunning rainforest in Phuket👍👍 What city in Thailand will you be living?

I would just Google search what tickles your fancy, and hire a woodcrafter over there make you one, I imagine that you could have it done inexpensively compared to having it made here and have TSA and customs goons monkeying around with it. click on the pic, and there are all kinds of examples that pop up.

Pipe collections are not mobile. I live in two homes and when away just live with a few leather straps and the "Action Pac" aka UPB 8/16". I know a lot of pipe collectors who have lived abroad and they all do the same thing.

God called his number fairly early in his life!! I’ve been to Thailand a couple of times, of course Bangkok as well as Pattaya and a few small cities in between. Also the stunning rainforest in Phuket👍👍 What city in Thailand will you be living? Yeah I've been traveling to Thailand for some time myself. Between my time in the Navy, and my as a civilian, I've been going there for well over 20 years. Hong Kong, Singapore, many other destinations, as well, but Thailand has always sort of been my home base of operations in the Southeast Orient. For tailored suits I would actually just go to Myanmar because all of the "Thai" tailors are from Myanmar anyway and they cost a third of what they cost in Bangkok or Chiang Mai for a third of the price. The typical year for me over the last 4 years or so has been half time here int he USA and half time in Thailand (well 4 months with a visa run in the middle on a plane because they cut down on land runs to 15 day extensions, at least in my case) so I kind of know what I am getting myself into. I've been married a few times to women from that part of the world.. The first one was broken up because I was foolish enough to bring a literal model here on a K1 visa from Thailand and let her mingle with my civilian friends in DC who made way more money than I do. The short story here is she left me for a guy with 10 figures in the bank who worked for the Bush 43 administration. The second one was with a lady from Hong Kong which is why I spent way too much in that horrendously overpriced (but dazzling city, more fun than NYC imho). She was a literal mosquito with our bank account and after about 4 years it was my own parents who told me it was time to end it, so I took Dad's advice. No kids with her and we had just sold our property so it was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Now this woman is a cleaner with a son and she's incredibly modest. She's in Bangkok. She works for less than three or so dollars an hour. She lives in a tiny efficiency. She has no desire whatsoever to come to the United States. Things are just working out beautifully, and I can't wait to get back to her every year and I am ecstatic I won't have to leave her this time around. So I guess I just told you all of this, I am not sure why, but yeah I will be moving to Bangkok for a few years, while I conduct some part time business (I am a retiree), and from there we are going to Rayong to live by her grandmother (her parents have both left our plane of existence). So I sort of know what I am getting myself into here, but I've known guys who headed to Thailand even more than me who had some uh.. Interesting experiences there to say the least!
