Is it me, or do toppings seem to dissipate after a few weeks? Last month, I opened a pouch of SWR. It smelled and tasted of Cocoa. When I smoked it yesterday, I could barely detect any. This morning, the same thing occurred when I smoked a bowl of Edgeworth Ready Rubbed that was also recently opened. It also tastes chemical for the first time. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Are you referring to the smell from the tobacco itself or when you taste the smoke, or both?
I wonder if you stir the tobacco would it bring some of the lower tobacco, that hasn't been exposed to the air too much, to the top would you get the smell back?
For me, I generally smell the same thing every time...but you know me and taste so I can't comment on that.

Good morning Sam,
Most heavy topped aromatic tobacco’s I’ve noticed from past experiences lose some flavor, especially if not jarred tight. Once I open a pouch blend it gets jarred immediately. All of my Sutliff ERR are in jars, so far have not noticed and chemical like aroma or taste.

It seems to be both smell and taste. I’ll try stirring it up. Neither of these blends are jarred. I usually jar everything except pouches and samples. My ERR Match is jarred tight with band and lid.

I just got 4oz of ERR in two weeks ago, and there's NO cocoa at all. It came that way. I jarred it immediately. My other 2oz. jar from June smells like it was dipped in chocolate. How old is the order you're smoking? I'm hoping my 4oz. somehow starts smelling and tasting like my jar from June with two months age on it, but I doubt it.

Last month I purchased 3 one pound factory sealed bags of Sutliff ERR. Each pound gets mixed well in a large bowl before jarring. Two of the three pounds was overly moist and needed a few days of air drying before I started my jarring. I took enough to smoke at least 3 bowls from each bag and stored the tobacco in 3 separate trays kept in Ziplock bags. The tobacco from two trays smoked pretty darn good for a fresh blend, had a nice aroma and taste of cocoa. The third tray I noticed a hint of cocoa in the taste but no cocoa in the aroma. Must be from another batch thrown together by a different blender from Sutliff. I guess there will be no consistency?!?!?! Very odd indeed.

It’s the actual Edgeworth from 1973. The tub was opened a few months ago and a friend sent me a generous sample.

I have a tub opened and once in a while I post “ I’m smoking ERR from the mid 70’s. I have 2 more old sealed tubs. Sutliff Match is a bit sticky where the Original was not. I wonder if the tub had a tight seal? Very odd indeed.
