I am sure other folks have noticed that when people talk about a certain range of pipe or model it compels others to look for these pipes.
Al Jones has been hot and heavy on GBD 9242's and Saseini Ashfords. I believe in my humble opinion this made the market one for the sellers.
Sablebrush talks of Barling's and many off the great houses from the first part of the last century and ditto.
I like Parker Patents and when one of the most notable collectors Mike Wreshke passed a few dealers bought his collecton up and babing, they asked crazy prices. Most where offered on internet sites so that is reason I mention these. Been a while since I have purchased one as the prices are still up.
Nothing being done here is wrong. People talk and a demand is created. Not so many pipes and if it desirable the price may go up.
I wonder what the next must have pipe or model will be?

Same thing happens with tobacco. Someone posts, "XXX in stock at SP!" at in an hour or two it's gone. I guess people have a fear of missing out on something, and Esoterica/McClelland madness seems to have created a permanent panic-spiral! It's not that these blends or the pipes you mentioned are necessarily better than others or even rare. My prediction is that pre-Laudisi Peterson's will be all the rage - especially ones drilled high, with fills, and other defects.

A few years back Rad Davis was the talk all over a certain forum. I have always meant to ask him if it drummed up more business for him!

Edward’s or Comoy’s......prior to ‘75 It's begining to happen with both of these ! Michael....I’ve seen it coming in the past 3 years! Edwards Pipes were selling real cheap....now take a look on eBay, with a charred rim that will sell for $40.00 plus!

Pipes made for and sold at the Walt Disney Parks are one slipped my mind. Brian Levine from the radio show mentions them on occasion. I saw one on the auction site with an asking price of $110.00. It doesn't mean it will sell at this price but crazy!

I've never been like this. I just look for good deals on pipes and snatch them up. But I mean, I don't have a tonne, and I'm not a collector. Think about 25 or so good pipes and a few dead soldiers that will probably never see action again. I just like good smokers that will last me a long time. I like good DEALS on pipes but I hate CHEAP pipes, with that said. However, the recent re-interest in pipes with perspex stems has got me really wanting to buy a perspex stemmed pipe, with that being said.

Forums were the social media way before Facebook and Twitter. And you can see how social media can be used for advertising or at least getting the word around. In forums, I can see that trusted, respected individuals could have a big sway in how products are received. I know that I've heard a few people post pictures of certain makes and mention how good they are that if I had any money I'd be buying that pipe. Perhaps I'm easily led.

At one time Disney Land and world had smoke shops on Main Street USA. You could buy a Disney pipe right in the park. Hope that helps GM.

Trends GBD appears to be down in price. Ben Wade free hands down. Doodler down, Civic was all the rage now down. There was some Danish pipe that was spelled like another Danish pipe that was all the rage I need help remembering this one. Barling well Jesse owns all the good ones and he keeps his catalogs in safety deposit box.

I expect to see the prices on Kaywoodies, Edward’s, and KBB Yello-Bole pipes increase substantially in the next couple of years.

And there predecessor before merger, Manhattan briar company briars, made to compete with the best at the time, make for some seriously good smokers if you can even find one.

The OP mentions my late friend Mike Reschke. I was fortunate to have seen his complete Parker Collection a couple of times. It wasn’t just the hundreds of pipes but the table lighters and other ephemera that made up his impressive collection. I’m sure I’ve seen the two pipes TB listed several times as part of a collection. The guy mentioned in the listing displayed them for sale at pipe shows. Imagine walking into a hotel room and seeing dozens if not over a hundred of these old silver mounted pieces laid out. It was unreal and out of my price range.

Just noticed this.....I HATE when the phrase “ dead soldiers “ is used in a sentence when describing that something is either “ not good “ or “ will ever be used again “........just my 2 cents!!

Savinelli pipes are through the roof right now on the estate market. Which doesn't equal Barling or old English prices but 2x more than they were 6 months ago.
