You'll eventually be afflicted with PAD (Pipe Acquisition Disorder) and we're all experts on how to handle that as well. Just wait until you see the happy smile on your wife's face when you show her your 100th briar.

She will be so excited to find out you age your tobacco just like you age wine. One tin for you one bottle for her.

That xikar your using is a torch that'll light your bowl on fire if youre not extremely careful. It can also contribute to tongue bite as its flame is hot enough to melt aluminum a soft flame like a match or a bic is the way to go. Pack lighter than you think you should and sip easy.

Tamp only when you need to and tamp lightly works well. Also, USE WOODEN MATCHES ONLY ! Have been using them for over 50 years now and have had no lighting problems!

Lighter is a soft flame , my wife thought it was a torch when she bought it last Christmas.

Perfect! Enjoy!
I hope are able to relax and enjoy your new hobby!
Take it one smoke at a time. Knowing we all started out the same way. You do have an advantage you have a forum full of people to chat with about it. I had my wife and friends when I started. They all thought I was nuts. Well maybe they were right but I did finally learn to enjoy my pipe.
