OK, I've got a problem. I can't let unread posts go unread, or un-replied. But I've had a great few months here. I was never into Friendface or the like, and never wasted my time on those things. Now I've found the place where I can happily waste my time (not that I consider it a waste of time). I feel like I'm among friends here. I feel like I could travel to USA and have a place to stay (at least in Lady Margaret's woodshed) and some tobacco to smoke from so many lovely people. I feel part of a community here - so thanks to sparks and the mods for this legacy. And thanks to everyone here for your friendship and camaraderie. Maybe one day I'll venture West. If I do, I'll plan my trip around seeing some of my friends from the Patch. Of course, if any of you are heading to Northern Ireland, make sure you let me know. |

I’m new here, but have been on several forums, and the Briarpatch is very “homey”. Veterans here are very tolerant. I feel I can participate without being shouted down or flamed.

Very true. It is nearly always a friendly place. Once in a while a couple of old billie goats butt heads, but then everything settles back down.

Yeah, I guess part of the connection here is that there's a good group of guys with common interests.
Add to that a nice forum interface, freedom to discuss other stuff, so long as the rules are obeyed, and you've got a winning combination.

Just can't beat the down home atmosphere. No flaming, no attitudes (well...some) but no intentional "schmuckyness". Another reason for a high post count...you always feel comfortable in responding...cause we're all friends here.

When Justin told me he wanted to build a forum for pipe smokers we discussed the number of existing sites and what we had learned from others. The idea was simple: make a place where like minded hobbyists could hang out without and drama and where people could just be themselves. The main goal was to have civil discourse among the members and respect other's points of view. I'd say we accomplished that by attracting great people looking for those things.
So, it really is the membership who drives this bus. Like any other forum we've had our moments but they have been few and far between.
Watching friendships grow among you has been very rewarding and that makes the effort worthwhile.

Congratulations....this has become a great forum due to ALL the members that participate often. Let’s make the BriarPatch the #1 pipe forum within the next 6 months. We have the quality members to achieve this......so let’s keep the ball rolling👌👍

Hopefully you’ll stick around. In my 30 plus years active in the online pipe world I’ve seen thousands of guy start out hot only to fade and disappear in a few months. Some disappear due to frequent run-ins on previous forums. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but when it gets nasty and out of hand it’s time to move on!! Some went as far as sending nasty PM’s, those were people that lived in “ third world countries “! |
