Sorry for the old photo, too shaky still from todays infusion to take one. I know that in the past your grandfathers probably had few pipes compared to what we have in our battery. To get a feeling how a pipe would fare if smoked daily, and sometimes twice, would it get sour or off tasting, would it not be enjoyable not haven been given a rest etc. I chose my Peterson Billiard Gold Spigot for this challenge and it’s been 3 weeks, if anything it smokes better than when I started, maybe our grandfathers were cashing in on great smoking and buying more tobacco, cheers. banjo  |

 ...Old or not, that's a darn good looking photo Banjo! My dad had a few pipes, but it always boiled down to two or three, and sometimes, it appeared to be just two that he smoked on a regular basis. He also smoked only Granger too. That was it. Those two pipes and Granger. Over and over and over... I think this is a good idea that you have, and I might just go for the Charatans Make Perfection 489DC which I recently have cleaned and sweetened to test out as well. Just need to think of a pipe tobacco blend to smoke  Note: My smoking has had to stop at this time due to a fire burning just East of Bend, OR. My grandfather smoked only Granger rough cut, Carter Hall and Half & Half. He owned only 7 pipes that lasted over 60 years of his pipe smoking enjoyment. I own and restored 2 of his favorite Dunhill pipes, only smoked on special occasions. I have plenty of Granger rough cut and can see how it goes with both of his pipes...” in honor of my grandfather “! I miss him dearly, one never forgets 💔

 Didn''t the "old folks" always know better? And are we not the "old folks" today?  Two to four bowls in the same pipe (briar, that is) is tolerable to me, but if you're smoking more than that you'll probably need at least one back-up pipe. Stay strong, Banjo!

Thank for that test. I remember a neighbour of mine smoked the same pipe all the time - that's what people did.

I have a Peterson Gold Spigot that I got from ebay that had all appearances of having been smoked to death. It was caked up so bad that I couldn't have loaded a bowl in any way. It must have been the previous owners only pipe and it was probably in his mouth when he died. About a weeks work and a few hundred pipe cleaners and its a fantastic smoker. The stem has moved about 80% into the shank, but no issues.
