Connemara is nowhere near me, unfortunately. It's within a short commute for an American, but for us on this tiny island, it's way too far. I should have taken photos from Balintoy Harbour, which was between the two photos above. Balintoy is where Game of Thrones is filmed. Actually, there's quite a bit of the north coast that's used in Game of Thrones. The tourist board is capitalising on it and offering tours of the sites. Do you own a car or scooter? Or do you use public transportation? I have a wee car. But there are bus tours that go to the filming locations.

Absolutely Beautiful! I'd love to visit Ireland one day. It's on my list of places to go whenever I can afford the European vacation that I've wanted to take since I was a kid. The problem with Ireland is its a small country that takes a very very very long time to see it all. It's a hard place to just put on a list of places to visit in one trip. Ireland requires and deserves individual attention. I grew up there and I haven't seen half of it.

Planning on visiting the North soon. We have been all over the ROI and it's heaven on earth. The Grand Canyon is just a dirty hole in comparison. I was amazed at how thick that book was... Some years back, a fighter pilot from Luke AFB was just a few feet from his toddler when she went over the edge...I cannot imagine the grief. I will make the argument that the true beauty of the Grand Canyon is not appreciated until you spend some time hiking and camping in it. Rafting counts too. Not for everybody though. And I am glad for that. It suits me to a T.

Only got to spend any time at a few places like Mucross House, Dromolan Castle, two free days in Dublin,Bunratty Castle, Blarney Woolen Mills, and Castle. Most of the the rest we were speeding by. 2 hours at the Cliffs of Moher. We had to wave at Tara as we passed. Three weeks wouldn't be enough. We spent a half a day at The National Museum, which covers over 6000 years of life on the island. In St. Patrick's Cathedral, the number of burned and tattered battle flags of Irish regiments that were lost fighting England's wars you have to see to believe. Uncountable. Texas is much much larger, but Ireland is the concentrated essence of man. A month wouldn't scratch the surface.

We got to spend a total of 45 minutes at the rim, on a day that was hazy because of all the preventative fires that were burning in the area. I always knew that we should have gone when we were younger.

As a much younger man, I toured the west counties on foot with backpack and sleeping bag. I found it best to travel along the railway right-of-way as that took me through the countryside and out of car traffic. I slept under rail bridges, in ancient towers often occupied with sheep and cows, ruined houses or in the open if it was not raining. Tresspass is not a concept the Irish adheared to much back then. Don't disturb the stock, leave the gates the way they were found. I ate and drank in Pubs. I do not know if that manner of travel can be done today.

For example, if you're in the Mourne mountains, the fields are fair game. In fact, there are many styles built into the walls. As long as you don't have dogs worrying sheep (in which case it would be shot) you're spot on.

I'm pretty sure most people don't care but since I'm up north, here a photo of Portstewart where the famous Morelli ice cream is sold. Some of the best ice cream around!

Very nice LL. Great B&W. And good use of the rocks in the foreground. Maybe you missed your calling and should have been a landscape photographer.

Paddy, beautiful picture, thanks for sharing 👌👍. Do the dry ice ship to the States.....guess any dairy products or plants is still not legal....bummer!

You'll probably get taxed on the ice cream. william, thanks for the complement. I did wedding photography for a while, but that took the joy of photography for me.

How about we all take a trip to Legend Lover's home, bringing a few tins of our finest pipe tobacco. When we are done, we will leave him whatever we do not smoke as a thanks for room and board?

I play traditional Irish and Scottish music.
Years ago I took the ferry over to Londonderry from Scotland, and then the train down to Dublin. I played music in pubs where ever I could, and on the street, from Dublin to Galway.
There are some pictures somewhere in some tourist's old collection, of me busking on Grafton Street in Dublin.

Ireland has always been a dream vacation spot for me. Every picture I ever see of it is so beautiful. Maybe next summer I can save some money up for a flight and visit your side of the pond for a week or two.
