The only tobacco products legally restricted from mailing via USPS is Cigarettes and Smokeless Tobacco. Even then, there are exceptions for person to person shipping. Your mail girl is a moron. There is no new regulation related to non-commercial tobacco shipments. I mail tobacco quite often without any problem. The women working the counter are always asking me what kind I will be sending and comment if it smells like baked goods or campfire ashes!

There is no new regulation related to non-commercial tobacco shipments. It came directly from the mouth of the Postmaster of the Knightdale PO in NC. The person behind the counter noticed it was an oversized envelope and asked “ are documents enclosed “? My response was “ just 2 ounces of pipe tobacco “. She said I’ll be right back, the Postmaster herself came out to explain about a recent changes to shipping tobacco products, not only cigarettes anymore. Your tobacco must be shipped Express Mail. Next time you mail a sample of pipe tobacco just mention at your PO what your mailing. I was told the same at the Clayton NC PO, are they all morons down here?

If they can’t show the change in regulations in writing, or cite them, then they can’t enforce it. The law is the law, and according to the US code, and the postal regulations on the USPS site, nothing has changed.

I agree with you, the law states the shipping of cigarettes is not legal but shipping cigars both domestically or to foreign Countries is legal provided those States or Countries permit tobacco products to be shipped. I’ve come across other issues down South as well in the past, some people pick up right away that I’m a northerner.....by some I’m still called a Yankee! I was not about to challenge a Post Master or the other Mail clerk ( jerk ) at the Clayton PO as well. I could file a complaint with the Post Master Generals Office in Greensboro, but where will that get me? From now on l learned to keep my mouth shut, I’m to honest. I just wanted to pass my experience on to others so they know to “ say nothing “!

I just sent some Mushroom to another member via the USPS with no problems at all Were you asked what’s being mailed? Mine was an oversized envelope, the clerk said are these documents, it’s cheaper to ship. Me being either to honest or stupid I told her it was about 2 .oz of pipe tobacco. That’s when the clerk had the Post Master come out and told me verbatim “ new regulations were just made, any tobacco products have to be mailed Express Mail only. Cigarettes are not legal to ship “! Next time you ship pipe tobacco tell the clerk your dealing with that your shipping pipe tobacco, I’d like to hear the outcome. I might end up filing a complaint at the Post Master Generals Office!

Got a call from my Son in Dayton, pissed off ain’t the word. He brought a damaged scope to UPS to be fixed at facility where he bought it. Clerk said what’s that, he said Gun Scope. Reply, sorry we can’t ship it. Should have said Astronomer Scope I guess. He told me one of his friends was denied shipping for a rifle stock. Didn’t know that was the case, what’s wrong with these businesses doing too good money wise. How do they ship gun purchases? I am wondering. I thought this thread was about me. Man I am an egomaniac.

I will explain exactly what I dealt with at the two PO in Knightdale and Clayton. Won’t be the first time I opened a case file with this State.

My last UPS package was left at the bottom steps of my son’s front porch. It was suppose to be signed for! Guess the idiot thought “ that’s close enough for me, gollie “!
