I am an aromatic guy, and I probably rate about one or two days past newbie. One of my first stashes in the cellar were about pound each of Gramercy Park, #191 and Rumcake made by Carole Burns. And, all three are my favorite aromatics. With Mrs. Burns retiring, I know that John Brandt has taken over keeping some of those blends alive. I know Rumcake and Gramercy Park are listed on the Wilke Pipe Tobacco website; although, I don't see #191.
Has anyone tried Mr. Brandt's Gramercy Park and Rumcake? Was there anything lost in the change over? I am just curious, as I tap my smoking stash slowly. I just would like to know if I can keep my cellared P&W and enjoy the stuff from Wilke Pipe Tobacco, less the #191 without missing anything. Sorry, but with McClelland going the way of the Dodo, I want to keep my cellared stuff - which is not nearly large enough - to keep me enjoying my smoking hobby going, as we go through what appears to be more and more pressure from the nanny culture to take away our hobby.
Also, is there talk of anyone taking over the McCelland blends in the future? I see that some older blends get picked up by other manufacturers and re-issued. Just curious, as my McClelland stash is going to be saved for retirement, but I do miss them.

I also found they do have #191. Apparently, I'm not good with them interwebz.
And, thanks for the info. I am not sure I can find a better tester than JimInks.

There is another one that was THE blend made for him, but I cannot remember it, and I am too tired to go look for it. Carole had some good stories about it. Supposedly, there was a local playhouse near where she lived that was putting on some Sherlock Holmes plays. They found out about the Rathbone connection, and she supplied them with that same tobacco and some calabashes.

You need a half pound of that tobacco for sure👍

I have smoked several of John's blends. If anything, they are better than Carole's. I think she was getting burned out. John follows the recipes to the letter and he has gone back to the earlier formulation on some. He is also reviving some blends that were not available from Carole. I think he is a member here.

Scanning TR.com really quickly tells me it's not their forte ... Nut Brown Burley sounded good but it's discontinued. Besides, I've got too much tobacco to go looking very hard for more.

Secondly, the #515 is the tobacco Basil Rathbone smoked, and it happens to be one of my favorite aros, too. I agree with RonV that John's not only following the recipes to the letter, and many are just as good as Carole's work, but many are also better now. I think John's Wilke blends are among the very best aros on the market, and his other blends are very good, too.
John is one of the friendliest guys in the business, and has a good sense of humor, too.

His aros are very light, not anything like a gooper. Most of the ones with Latakia are also very mild.

You probably wouldn't like it. 🤠😈 Carole still restores and repairs old pipes and has several pages of nice ones.

I've got two dozen movies with Basil Rathbone in it. I think it would be cool to have a marathon of his movies while smoking his blend! I am going to load up soon, but I am in the middle of an unfortunate flare up of adulthood. Once I get over it, I plan on building a tobacco fort annex to the ammo fort

I’m finding many tobacco’s are no longer available due to McClelland’s closing their doors. It’s really taking its toll on a great B&M here in NC...McCranies...I’d hate to see them close their doors. Just wonderful people👍

" ..... Also, is there talk of anyone taking over the McCelland blends in the future? I see that some older blends get picked up by other manufacturers and re-issued. Just curious, as my McClelland stash is going to be saved for retirement, but I do miss them." The main reason Mike closed it all down was he could no longer get the varieties of Va's and other tobaccos they used in the blends anymore. With this being the case for him it would be the case for anyone else. The blends would not be the same.

I noticed that Gotham Court has been discontinued. it sounded like one that would suit me. was that due to it not being popular or because ingredients are no longer available?
