I was just mowing the lawn, it had been 3 weeks since it was last cut because of the rain and vacation and I got swarmed by yellow jackets or hornets ( they were black and green). I was hit three times before I vacated the area with the mower I didn't wanna hafta go back for the mower. I'll tell ya that those little bastards are mean and persistant.

You are lucky you aren't allergic to their venom. Yeah, they are small but potent.

I’m wondering from what you described it was........
Green orchid bees are very fast and agile flyers, and can be seen quickly darting from flower to flower separated by long periods of hovering. As with most bees in Florida, females possess a stinger and males do not. Although females can sting, they are quite timid in doing so. These are found in many States as well.
Hornets, are in the wasp family, can keep on stinging. If a yellow-jack stings it immediately dies.
Feel better, don’t mow until the sun goes down....carry a can of hair spray with you....stops them in flight👍

I was almost to the shop doors (75 yards) and still getting hit Don't tell the EPA but these little suckers are getting sent to a chemically induced death of fire

Sound like you “ pissed off “ a hive. “ Yellowjackets also nest in the ground “! They come in different sizes as well, they are persistent buggers!!

The wasps we have here are paper wasps. Nasty critters. When I was 10 I had a neighborhood service getting rid of them. Hairspray, often with a cigarette lighter.

In Baton Rouge lived in a Subdivision that had acreage, I had a woodpile in between 2 trees, while cutting grass I brushed the pile with my belly mower and a hole about size of a quarter appeared, couple little critters flew out, I put it in reverse and put front tire over hole, killed engine and hopped off, very fast. That night I came back with a flare, struck it off, pushed mower off and jammed flare in the hole, and boogied away. I was very lucky.

Yeah, I'd pour a little gasoline on the hive and BBQ them.

I am in a perpetual state of warfare with the yellowjackets here. They make nests anywhere there is a void. I have been mass stung at least six times in my life, going back to about the age of six or seven. When they build nests where I can reach them, I just wait for a cool morning and then pop the nest off with a scraper and stomp them. Nests in the ground require spray or fire. Yesterday I stirred up a nest they had made in one of my ham radio antenna masts. Buggers.

when I was peddling meat I Hated October and November. Not sure what type of bees these were. Someone said they bite, not sting. They hung around the ham company and soon as I came out with a case of hams they swarmed around it. They would get up on my side windows on the inside, which I would use as a guillotine to chop the little boogers in half. I left their remains displayed on the windows as a warning to other bees thinking on a criminal career. It's a shame I have to identify this as the truth, compared to my other posts, but it is the truth

Yellow jackets are nasty little bass-turds. They decided to make a nest under some bushes right next to the house. I was mowing the grass and disturbed them and I was swarmed before I knew it. The lawn mower kept going as I jumped off and hit the water spigot. I got stung somewhere around 30 times within seconds. I couldn't just leave it because of the geyser in the yard. I went back with a cup of gasoline, a PVC coupling, primer and glue.
Solved the yellow jacket problem and "little faithful."
I hate them!

I hate them too. Our wasps aren't that bad but this time of year they're all over the show and starting to die off. I make traps with coke bottle cut in half and the top end inverted and stuck back in the bottom end which is filled with sugary water or jam with water.
The wasps get in but can't get out. They're a blinkin' nuisance.

I need to get the wife one of those for when she mows the lawn. (Actually, we pay Gary from down the street to mow for us)

Yeah, normally I'm a "live and let live" kinda guy, but not with wasps and their ilk. Nowadays I spray them with extreme prejudice, not just for myself, but for my family, the guys who do our yard-work, the mailman, and so on.

Round Two: Last night I dropped the hammer on them pretty good. So today I was walking out to the ManVan and I saw 1 buzzing around and he went into a hole that I hadn't noticed last night so I filled the hole with a flammable substance and poof I hit em again and hopefully this will be the last time.

If they tunnel, which they do....leave a hose running a while until their bunker is flooded.

Well, I'm pretty sure I got them with as much flammable liquid as I poured down that hole but I'll keep this in mind
