I’m wondering from what you described it was........ Green orchid bees are very fast and agile flyers, and can be seen quickly darting from flower to flower separated by long periods of hovering. As with most bees in Florida, females possess a stinger and males do not. Although females can sting, they are quite timid in doing so. These are found in many States as well. Hornets, are in the wasp family, can keep on stinging. If a yellow-jack stings it immediately dies. Feel better, don’t mow until the sun goes down....carry a can of hair spray with you....stops them in flight👍 these were about 1/2 long and came out of the ground with a vengeance. I was almost to the shop doors (75 yards) and still getting hit Don't tell the EPA but these little suckers are getting sent to a chemically induced death of fire Nuking them from space is the only answer

Get them with firecrackers they will die and you'll have fun. Hopefully firecrackers aren't outlawed (as everything is these days).

In Baton Rouge lived in a Subdivision that had acreage, I had a woodpile in between 2 trees, while cutting grass I brushed the pile with my belly mower and a hole about size of a quarter appeared, couple little critters flew out, I put it in reverse and put front tire over hole, killed engine and hopped off, very fast. That night I came back with a flare, struck it off, pushed mower off and jammed flare in the hole, and boogied away. I was very lucky. Since you brought up the hazards of wood piles, I recall when Doughbelly Price, local "entrepreneur" and rounder, reached into his woodpile only to be bitten by a rattlesnake. This was years ago when folks thought gasoline had healing properties. Doughbelly poured some from a can onto the bite and then stuck a cigarette into his maw. When he struck a match, he did not realize he had splashed gas onto his shirt and so he caught on fire. Running around the yard yelling, some of his hired men rushed over and knocked him down, rolling him on the ground to extinguish the flames. When the crisis passed, he sat up and remarked, "You know, boys, that gasoline sure takes your mind off the snakebite!" True story.

I'm never going to mow another yard in this life. As I got attacked by fire ants and became disabled within 3 months.

When me and my brother lived with my grandma, we saw a bees nest in a huge willow tree overhanging the parking area of the barnpartment she lived in.
We had new Daisy BB guns and we both drilled holes into it from across the yard. The bees came out... really pissed and the guy working on his car under the willow was stung pretty good.
He went up on the balcony way and poured boiling water on the nest and keep lied them off... poor guy never knew that we pissed em off.

Well, I’m glad that all ended well. When I read you were headed out with gasoline, WD-40, and your bid I was hoping I wasn’t going to read about you as a Darwin Award winner!

small property, no trees. Mow/trim only takes me around 45mins. Smoking room mostly glass panels...have seen only a few "yaller-jackets" on the outside screens. Haven't been bit by one a them critters in at least 2 yrs. So far, ditto on skeeters.
