I, too, have done what Paddy did to his Legend....came out looking like the twin to his. Makes it much more "my" pipe than before. I really like the black look as the plastic stem has turned black from smoking even though I clean it out every time with whiskey. Thinking about painting the other Legends that I have just for the H*** of it. Doesn't seem to affect the breath-ability of the pipe any and looks so much better than they grubby (from use with not so clean hands) use. It works well, doesn't it? At least I'm happy with it. I'm thrilled with mine...thinking of doing that with the other Legends (4) that I have.

Edward's called that shape a Coachman. I have three, two smooth, one blasted. It's one of my favorite shapes Edward's made!

My favorite pipe is the Savinelli 320 EX. Many varieties available. I was in so much danger of wearing the pipe out that when I got a buck or two ahead I bought a few more.
The 320EX is a serious hunk of wood. Other pipes feel a bit insubstantial by comparison. The bowl is big and comfortable to grip, and I have learned how to excellently sip the pipe down from first light to white ash. It dips down a bit so it is below the line of sight when having a conversation or reading. While not unique to the EX, I like the way it tells me the bowl is done. The very bottom of the bowl gets warm to the touch.
I have others that I like, and love, but I keep coming back to the EX. It just does it reliably well.

My current two favorite pipes are my Kaywoodie Supergrain, it is a square/diamond panel, and I believe the shape would be bent billiard, or perhaps bent Dublin. I'm not 100% on shapes.
The other is my Nording Great Dane freehand?. Great smokers, and they both look good too.
I'll see about posting up some pics of them here.
