I camped next to a small lake, and played old time music with friends, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, guiatar, you know the drill. I smoked, and played, and sat, and drank, and played and smoked. Billy Budd Blonde the whole weekend.
I was in much more danger from the health risks of sedentary sitting for too long than anything I was consuming.

In the morning, I'll be on the back porch with coffee and pipe, for sure. Later, there will be some chainsaw and chipper action for a few dead Italian Cypress Trees. After that the beer will begin to flow and we'll cook something tasty ... probably have the boy (step-son) come over. Be safe and enjoy!

Since it's just Lonnie and me today, he's tearing into a bully stick, and I'm smoking on the sofa, planning a new wing in the tobacco fort, watching the Hope/Crosby "The Road..." movies before getting ready for the LSU game.

Being retired...every day is a blessing of comfort and joy. Tomorrow will be no different. And thats why my wife and I are working hard now and why tomorrow will be a blessing to sleep in and then do some studying. So we have a future and can one day retire. Loss of a bit of sleep and comfort now for a better tomorrow.

Woke up early took Buddy, my Catahoula of 4 months out in rain for a pee pee and KaKa, no KaKa. Tried again after coffee, no KaKa. Raining very hard, Wife took an allergy pill last night, she slept till 10:45. Wife fried Catfish, slaw, baked brownies, ate them with ice cream. Proceeded to watch one of my favorite movies The Patriot, it reminds me what it is to be an American. Even with the rain, it’s a great day to be an American. I am awaiting the LSU Football game, hope the gators won’t eat us up.

Since we don't celebrate it here, I can't participate. I hope you all enjoy your days though whatever you do.
I like the sound of retirement. I reckon I'll be working till I die.

We've got a small cookout for the family and a few friends but mostly just relaxing. I'm going to try and burn a few bowls of Mississippi River and finish off the last little bit I have tonight. I'll wait until dark though. It's hot out!

I've been retired for 19 years, I think. Xuan has been retired for 8... again I thunk. It will be another day here. I'll remind Xuan not to check the mail. Don't meant to sound dour. It's not meant that way. We have a small house and yard and have a doggie. We don't need much else and I am thankful every night to the Important One for all our creature comforts.

It just started pouring rain here ... can't complain in Arizona. However, it could get me out of the tree felling and chipping and leave nothing but smoking and drinking!

Going to have my first dram of Broken Bell Small Batch. My older brother keeps on bringing me great whiskies because he thinks I still drink. Last drink of liquor 2 months ago. Last beer, 3 years.

Since this whole weekend was shot in the foot, tomorrow will be different.
I actually have tomorrow off for the first time in roughly 10 years. Since I'm off, I'll wake up 2 hours earlier than normal (5 am), I don't know why that happens, but it always has. I plan to do nothing more than drink coffee and smoke pipes all day. I WILL finally get around to this Arturo Fuente 858 Maduro. I've had it for 2 weeks and haven't had the time for it.
I'm sure there will be something on the grill at some point, but I'm taking it easy and keeping my stress level to a minimum. If it's not my children, or the briar patch, I ain't answering any calls or messages.
I hope you all enjoy your day
Im with you LL, work til I die, unless the lottery pans out one day.

I hosted my son’s birthday party yesterday, so tomorrow we will be eating leftover Ribeye steaks... they were all really thick, covered the plate... most people split steaks so I wil have to eat them.... the potato salad is always better the next day also.
My son left a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue behind, mostly full.... told me to put it to use.
Smoking, eating, drinking, no labor.

This message is to those that work. I worked for the Dept. of Labor with the State of Fla. til I was 70. Looked at working 5 more years so that I could get full "benefits"...worked out the additional $$ that I would make...another $20.00 per month...and for what? A bunch of miserable F***s that fudge the numbers to please the Gubnr. Told my wife...5 years for this? Are we nuts? One of us (she worked for the Dept. Highway Safety as I did prior to moving to the next state job) is gonna kill one of these stupid inconsiderate arse****s out of pure unfettered desperation. So we both retired on the same day. Screw the extra $20.00. Never been happier than the day I walked out to a standing ovation from my coworkers. Moral of this story...don't kill yourself for the money (unless you love your job). It really isn't worth it to your mental or physical health. Got spinal stenosis, lost 3" in height, and was miserable in my "job". Work out your numbers for your retirement (life is cheaper without working than it was while working) and get the hell out while you can still enjoy your life. End of rant, sorry it was so long, but I had to tell my story.

Smoking, eating, drinking, no labor. Sounds pretty nice. For my wife's birthday and Labor Day, drove 3 hours to a you-pick apple/peach/pear orchard we go to every year (Wilcox, AZ) to find rain last night and this morning put the road two feet under water. Doh! Then, the little Mexican joint we like was closed, because Sunday in a small town. Who can blame them? But, it's the journey, not the destination and had a nice road trip with the wife, car hummed along, no tickets, so, all told, I can't complain. Now will hoist a drink or two, work in a pipe in the morning because it's been too long and is too hot this afternoon, and enjoy the 2-day weekend. Happy Labor Day, y'all!

After being away all week dog sitting since the last mow I had a real mess on my hands today. It was pretty hot here today too which made it a four Coors Light job. I'm watching LSU crush Miami and drinking ice tea this evening.
Tomorrow will begin with coffee and a smoke before daybreak. The cattle dog and I will get in a good walk as soon as it's light enough to see. We're in the 90s all week. I'm going to clean some pipes tomorrow, see if there's anything on my 165 channels to watch. I'm thawing some chicken tonight to throw on the grill tomorrow evening and will make some green beans and mashed potatoes for sides, just take it easy.

Sleep late, then go next door to my mothers to do some work around her house and her laundry. She's 93 and with my help she's still able to live in her house. ( the one I grew up in) She worked till she was 73!
