If I ever find the time to follow football again, (probably will in retirement), it will be college football for me. I used to enjoy the NFL years ago, but spent too much time doing so... and just my opinion, the NFL isn’t what it used to be.
Having said that ASU just did a major overhaul of their stadium, and in doing so, started selling beer and really upped the food choices. The bad.... no re-entry after the game starts.. tailgating was a big thing and people would set up parking lot barbecues, and return at half time for drinks at the car. One guy interviewed spent 40k on tickets going forward and was pretty pissed that thy didn’t declare that beforehand.... that’s a lot of coin!
I love going to games, but the crowds, security hassles, food prices, $15 beer, hiking to a restroom.... I have never had an obnoxious drunk spill beer on my back at home!

Charlie, big college football fan here! Last college game I saw at a stadium was FSU in ‘96....the Bobby Bowden era. At that time it cost $96.00 for a decent seat, food prices were “ off the wall “ then and now triple the price! I don’t like dealing with loud rude crowds, plus the ridiculous traffic getting in and out of the stadium.
My last NFL stadium game was the Redskins in 2010..... only thing I didn’t get while going through a security check was a digital exam.....however my crotch was adjusted for free!!! EVERYTHING was over priced. Had great seats, I missed half the plays, to loud and the price of food was so high I had my girlfriend at the time walking around the stadium giving foot messages just so we could eat....lmao!!
I much prefer staying home and viewing on the big screen or even my iPad instead of being at the stadium!!!

I love the culture and atmosphere that appears to be present at big games, whether football, baseball, basketball. If I'm ever in the states I'd go to a big game.

I normally get down to Bowling Green to see a Western Kentucky game once a year. Concessions are a little over priced but it's not as bad at a mid-major as a Power-5 game. Community Coffee is top shelf for stadium stuff and it's a good time. I had an Army buddy who went to Alabama and got down there for a couple Iron Bowl games with Auburn back in the day. Even though I didn't have any skin in the game, the experience was pretty incredible.
I picked up ESPN+ this year which will carry three WKU games. 30 day free trial, $5/month afterwards and I'll be able to stream three games which includes the home opener next weekend, pretty cool.
SEC looks like a beast this year. My problem with the SEC is they only play eight conference games. The other Power-5 conference schools play nine. That's not a level playing field. The only ranked team Alabama plays away from home is LSU. The only ranked team Georgia plays away from home is also LSU. I expect two of these three to be in the playoff one way or another.

Last year they played Mercer, got their butts kicked by Auburn and had a two week layoff before the playoff. Good work if you can get it. They had a pretty good team and won the playoff but it wasn't a level playing field.

College football is the ONLY sport I watch. During the season you rarely catch me away from the TV on Saturdays.
You're right, NFL is not the same as it was even 20 years ago. I refuse to watch it.

If I had to guess today, I'd say the most likely four teams to make the playoff are Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Oklahoma - Same as last year.
Those which could upset the apple cart are LSU, Ohio State and West Virginia. LSU can write their own ticket if they beat Bama and the Dawgs at home. There's no way the NCAA will leave out OSU if they can due to their fan base and ratings. West Virginia is the wildcard and an NCAA nightmare. Will Grier is a legitimate Heisman candidate but their fan base is tiny so their only road to the playoff is run the table.
It's only week one but I can't see any others having much chance to make the playoff - This has to change.

I was not going to mention this but I wonder who was drinking what when the schedule was put together. Because if the lottery method was used in the league, Nick Saban should play Lotto immediately!

I guess I'm an oddball. I don't watch the games, have no interest in them or any "sport" that is played. Never had any interest in them. If you are a sports fan, I can understand the enjoyment, but it just ain't for me. I only mention this cause there may be others with the same feeling (or maybe not).

Obviously, I can take it or leave it kinda guy, once you get into it though, there is a lot of strategy employed in the game, some great personalities involved in it, and some occasional boneheads. I wish we could go back to the time of smoking a pipe at the arena, and enjoying an inexpensive beer though.

Season ticket holder here since graduation in 1988. I have been to so many games I have lost count. Prices, security hassles, parking, tailgate crowds, it gets harder and harder to go every year.

Supposed to be 80,000 at Doak Campbell Stadium today with a football game...there's a freakin tropical storm practically sitting on our heads, yet they are in that stadium. Not for me.

If you make it here, I'll take you to Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge for a LSU Tigers game. Everyone can claim their stadium is special, there is NOTHING like a night game at Tiger Stadium, and the tailgating is beyond compare. You will eat amazing well, and may well be to drunk to make it to the stadium for the game. Although, a White Out game at Penn State's Beaver Stadium for a game experience is close, and The Grove at Ole Miss for tailgating it close. But, LSU has Mike the Tiger!

I guess with the advent of 50 games on TV and millennials with 20 minute attention spans is affecting everyone's attendance. Being a die-hard college football fan, I enjoy spending my ENTIRE Saturday watching games and smoking a few bowls. I've been known to have a game on the TV, one on the MacBook and one on the iPad. Yeah, I have it bad!

Yeah, I can see the problem with the conference schedules, but it's hard to play a true round robin like the Big 12. And, I agree that LSU has a brutal gauntlet type of schedule this year with UGA and 'bama having a much easier road schedule...save for playing us at home. I PRAY that both are night games, but we will likely pull the afternoon SEC spot for UGA.

While I will never say anything complementary about Alabama, but I think Ole Miss, A&M and Miss State may be better than expected. Auburn will play them to the last second, and I pray that we can finally pull out a win over little Nicky.

No kidding. For people who do not follow the larger teams who may read your post, I don't think they grasp that season tickets (and the extra fees) could easily run into the multiple thousands of dollars.
