The budget talks in Harrisburg have once again put the tax on cigars and pipe tobacco back in play. I wrote a short and very pointed note to my state rep and senator telling them that the $10,000/year I spend at the local B&M on cigars, pipe tobacco and other items will immediately go out of state if those proposed taxes are passed. I urge other Pa smokers to do the same. The only thing they understand is money and when it exits the state, only then, will they realize their folly.

Here in N.Carolina you must pay sales tax on what you buy online from within the state. That just encourages folks to buy from another state. Doesn't add up to me.

That's where I'll be heading if this passes, . No I assume you already pay city/county/state sales tax on retail in state tobacco purchases. Right now I don't think PA has a tobacco excise tax. If they pass a tax it will be on the wholesale not retail price.

Dave, the tax will be passed on to the consumer. We have a 6% general sales tax. The proposal is 40%. If that happens I'll go 100% internet purchasing.
