Branching out past hobby blocks. I've found stem material easily. But it seems finding a quality Briar Source is an entirely different matter. Any help would be grand.

I assume you've gone to Vermont Freehand? Second on Vermont Freehand or call Tim West at J.H. Lowe. I only make about 2-3 pipes a year but have had great experiences with both businesses. They are both very happy to help out us hobbyists. I would give Vermont Freehand the slight nod, because of the much better website with the ability to take credit cards and Paypal. Steve ships very quickly too. You have to call Tim, then he will ship in a bit and send you an invoice and you get to mail him a check. It is slower but it works well. I haven't gotten a bad block from either (although some were better than others).

I just realized you are not in the US. It might not be worthwhile to order from either Vermont Freehand or Tim West due to shipping. I have never tried to buy from ebay. I just took a look and like that you can see photos of the specific block you are buying. The prices seem a little higher but it might be worth it.

High quality and definitely worth the price...I’ve purchased a few different pieces, all worked out, much better then expected

The ebonite and colored acrylic I was getting from Vermont but I'm still learning the grading numbers of briar. And trying to figure out what is too expensive for a certain grade is certainly a difficult thing to do without many local pipe makers.
