I'm constantly mixing my own tobaccos, and while I'm usually met with underwhelmed disappointment, I occasionally find something worth repeating.
Tobacco Parts
Dark Burley 6 Red VA 2 Latakia 1 Oriental 1 Perique 1
The latakia/oriental gives a nice woodsy note, the perique a cocoa sorta finish, the VA adds a little sweet balance, and the burley keeps everybody honest (kinda like the bouncer at the tobacco club).

That’s a blend extremely similar to one I’ve made prior, good tasting blend. Depends on the percentage of components blended.

Mr P, just curious about the quantity of a “part”. Is one part an ounce?

Sounds tasty. I am a sucker for burley with a little perique. If I made it I would probably substitute out the latakia for some dark fired.

I like the above recipe given by mrphillips , and will have to make an attempt myself with a blend. I wonder how this would be in a crumble cake?

I guess I’ll have to find that old Weight Watchers’ scale.

Thanks for the ego boost buys/gals! When I say "parts" I mean # of grams (6g, 2g, 1g, etc.). When I find something I like I multiply everything I have by 10 or 15...or whatever it takes to use up the dominate quantity of tobacco in the blend. I only buy a few ounces at a time from pipesandcigars. It's a cheap way to keep creative. Haha. I will say that if you haven't ever tried mixing from scratch, please try. You'll only be out 10 or 15 bucks, and on that small of a scale, it'll give you 6 or 7 tries to make something your friends will drive out of their way for! Plus you can smoke a bunch of tobaccos completely on their own...which gives you a better idea of what may be in some of your favorite store bought mixes...WHICH can give you the knowledge to make a great collection of house blends for different seasons or occasions. Sorry for getting up on my soapbox, it's just too much fun to keep to one's self As a side note, I heard many on this forum loving fire roasted tobaccos, and I bought a couple ounces to replace some Latakia in a few of my mixes. It was just too overwhelming when I added more than 5% in a blend. Latakia on the other hand, I can get a little crazy with and still exhale with a smile. Again, thanks for the posts!

A good everyday blend for me is swr, not much but it's still oddly satisfying.

Just ordered everything needed for the recipe, but cannot find pure oriental. Any ideas on that?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think C&D Izmir Turkish is a straight oriental and is pretty widely available.
