I very much like flakes. The fullness and flavor they provide outweigh the fussiness of preparation (I don't rub flakes out). I've been getting into plugs, so that I can justify the fancy Ulu that I got from Jason Zeiner, the fine pipe carver. My preference in Virginia runs toward the brighter, lighter variations, being that I'm a wimp when it comes to nicotine. But do any plugs based on the lighter leafs exist? The lightest I have come across is the extinct Motzek Strang. All the ones I've had (Revor, Dark, Yachtsman, Mickey McQ,, etc Plugs) run on the strong side, forcing me to restrict puffing them to my small bowled pipes, much as I would have to do with ropes and twists.

I find GLP Triple Play and Peterson's 3P's on the lighter side....but then, I'm immune to nicotine. You may also try the Samuel Gawith plugs. St James Plug and Kendal/Best Brown plug springs to mind.

Les, see if you can get ahold of some Kendal Plug. I think it’s the tamest of the “real” plugs available.

I found 3P and Salty Dogs to be relatively lightweight (compared to some other plugs). I have never tried Wessex Gold Brick but reviews make that out to be relatively lightweight.
If you can find someone to ship it to you, G&H Bright CR plug might be your ticket.
