For fun I only smoked cobs for years. Now I collect briars. I wasn't missing anything, aside from the joy of collecting. This, those who swear by cobs havent cought the pipe collecting bug yet ...certainly some truth to this...

I would adjust your numbers to 50 25 25, just because a bad hunk of briar will destroy any smoke until its built some layer of cake. I had a pipe that never smoked right and I'm sure it was caused by a bad block. I could smoke my favorite blend in it and hate it. I dont have it anymore and I'm still leary of the whole country it came from because of it. Way to bury the lede. What country was it? Denmark which makes me sad because I dig the freehand shapes of preben holm and the sharpness of tom eltang, although the pipe I had wasnt even close to that level.

+100^^^^^^^^^^ I still keep my eyes open for any old Edwards or Comoy’s Pipes. Now that the WORD is out it’s been much more difficult to find a good deal on eBay!! Comoy's have always been very highly collectible. At least the "Blue Ribands."
Of course, now the seconds are going for $30 and $40 -- Guildhall, Everyman, etc. I don't know quite what to make of that.
Because pipe smokers are finally appreciating how well oil cured Algerian briar smokes. They must be lurking here often👍

I do a mix myself. I have one pipe dedicated to Vs and VApers. One pipe dedicated to Lakeland. The rest are everything pipes that I smoke whatever out of. In all honesty I don't really experience all that many appreciable ghosts in my everything pipes, so I fall into the philosophical camp of just choose a tobacco and a pipe and go.
