Yesterday I came home from work to find a half pound of Stokkebye cube cut in a P&C box waiting on my doorstep. A few weeks back I took advantage of the Stokkebye sale then the extra 15% off for customer appreciation week so I ordered a bunch of LBF and LNF. On top of that I had a $20 "please keep being our customer even though we really screwed up your order" credit so i threw in some Cube Cut because I always wanted to try it and it was basically free.
I've never had a Stokkebye blend I didn't like. Some are better than others (I'm looking at you luxury trust flake, I hope with some age you live up to your potential). This one was pretty good too. I've been on a Burley kick lately and enjoyed a bowl last night. I know it is dangerous to judge a tobacco by a single bowl, so don't read too much into my thoughts.
The cut was uniform and larger than I expected. The cubes were larger than C&D cube cut and seemed denser than 333. They were pretty hard and also surprisingly moist. I let some sit for a good hour and they still were likely too wet for my taste. The bag aroma was mild cocoa I didn't detect and topping. I don't know why but I was expecting a mild alcohol topping like Carter Hall.
Gravity filled and lit. Too 3 it 4 chatting lights before it got going. Taste was pretty monotonous, a little cocoa a little molasses. Nothing surprising. Had a little extra sweetness from the Cavendish process and a little tang from the red VA, but mainly I think it just tempered the bitterness of the Burley a bit. Surprisingly not very nutty either.
Burned a little hot because I had to put on it a little faster than I would have liked to keep it going. Next time I will dry out longer.
All in all I think I enjoyed it. I think once I get a better handle on it I will like it more. It was simple and didn't pretend to be anything that it wasn't. Very light in nicotine as well. It was definitely smoother than C&D Burley, but lacked a real hook in the flavor department. We shall see if it grows on me.

Sounds like a good cube cut I’d enjoy as well. I have a number of jars of C&D cube cut Burley. In a few jars I did a 70% CCB & 30% BCA....burns at a much slower pace, makes for a cool smooth smoke👍👍👍

Sounds like it's worth persevering with this one.

Nice review. I'd suggest comparing this one to Uhle's #300 and Perfection Plug, both of which are also cube cut Burley and my personal favorites.

I have played a bit with this. I have tried it moist, dry. Whole cubes, lightly rubbed out and fully rubbed out. I found the each method has it's own way of smoking. I have put this with different flakes and different ribbon cuts. Here I found that it adds a bit of body to the smoke.
