That's a terrific restoration of a pipe that I would have otherwise thought was for for the bin.

I wouldn't have guessed those "before" photos were recoverable at all.

Ok, I should probably apologize for the misleading title. A lot of you were surely expecting a rather nice or unusual pipe, and not some train wreck that I foolishly spent too much time on, and that has little worth even all fixed up. I do this every once in a while because it's fun. I usually do this on high grade pipes like Dunhills, but with the talk of these Magic Inch pipes that has been in this forum lately, I had to have one, and decided to buy the worst I could find, and I think I succeeded.
So I'm sorry, but thank everyone who wasted their time on this thread for indulging a crazy person. Maybe I should have saved this for Aprils fools day....

...impressive restoration... I would be a bit hesitant to smoke it, after that degree of abuse...

Your pipe has tremendous worth. You took a pipe that appeared ready for the garbage heap and used your skills to bring it back to a relatively nice looking pipe. Nothing useful created by one’s own skills is without worth. Putting heart, skill, and one’s best effort gives tremendous worth to all successful endeavors. I suspect you’ll be pleasantly surprised about how good it smokes. Well done!

Beautiful work, Paul. I don't think any of us feel we wasted time reading your story. The workmanship is inspiring.

Hey, this doesn't smoke bad at all. I had left some cake in the bowl as it seemed to be the only thing holding it all together. After all the repair work I lined the bowl with pipe cement and after it cured, spread a thin coat of honey on it to start some cake. Normally I wouldn't do that, but in this case it seemed like a good idea. I'm impressed with the fact that I thought these pipes were gimmicky, but it actually smokes very nice! Thanks for the feedback everyone!

My codger uncle smokes a magic inch so not gimmicky at all in my book. Prince albert in a can day in day out with a draw strong enough to pull a golf ball through a garden hose and he only smokes two pipes at a time. Ones a magic inch the other isnt. That speaks to the quality of the gimmick at least imho.

You did get the worst one you could think of. Zooks! I wish I had my printing press operative. I could be printing out deeds to bridges all day long and selling them to you. I looked at that pipe a dozen times and cringed at the thought of it. Another Fin Note would have put you into the bracket of the two estate Magic Inches that I popped for. You did a beauty of a job on it. I should send you my grandpa's rare Um Poul which is nowhere near as joyously cracked as yours.

Orley, your cracked bowls repairs always amaze me. Well done sir.
By the way, that selfie you posted, should be on the back of a book. An authors portrait if I’ve ever seen one...

Regardless of the pipe in question, your restoration was simply mind-blowing, and I'm glad you shared it with us. Nice photo too.
