I am not a tennis guy, but Mrs Williams has always had my respect for no BS, PC crap. But in the US Open she imploded, thought just showing up she would win, ruined the young player from Japan’s day, I am not her Champion anymore. !

I don't follow anyone's personal life (athletes, musicians, etc.) but I've always enjoyed watching Serena on and off the court. 😉

I don't follow tennis anymore but I do remember Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe throwing some classic hissy fits.

Yeah, they were more sissy fits than hissy fits in my opinion...which isn't worth much. (hope that isn't pc).

I didn't see that in the news, but just watched the clip and read the article. I wonder if the fact that she escalated the whole thing, may have damaged the 'head game' and she may have lost the game for herself.
She also looks like should could do with some humility. JMHO.

I've never had patience for poor losers or bad sportsmanship. I don't have time for prima donnas.
My favorite athlete of all time was George Blanda. Started playing professional football in 1947 and retired in 1976. Stared as QB and by the time he retired we was the 3rd string kicker, but he got suited up everyday and worked hard in practice. He was 48 when he retired and kicked a 41 yard field goal in his final game. Always out his team and the sport ahead of himself.

Going drama when losing is a tactic. She's hardly the first. Sometimes it works but at what cost? It's total crash and burn when the card is played and doesn't affect the intended outcome.

There have been many many sports figures in time that don't have the proper sportsman attitude...........there human and I've never found one (a human that is ) to be perfect, that's what makes us human. Some of us mature quicker then others while some never will I suspect. I try not to let what others do in there life affect me as long as it doesn't hurt others or me. So if someone wants to raise a hissyfit for some cockamamie reason because they didn't win or the like it just adds to the entertainment value as I see it. We all need a good laugh more often anyway. As a second note, sports don't really interest me much and I'm not really a competitive person in that way, only when it means my life or loved ones am I.

I still have a photo that he signed for me at the grocery store when I was a kid. Cast iron guy.

When I first saw that new ad I really laughed. She’s not even the greatest female sports figure of all times....not even close! I have NO more to say without getting in trouble.....lol.

Serena Williams is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time, male or female. In my book, she certainly is. As far as I am concerned, Serena is the GOAT. We can argue about her attitude, or her sportsmanship, but she is still the GOAT.

Serena Williams was out played yesterday.......didn’t take her loss well....bad attitude.......she’s like her Dad in that manner! Nothing more to say!!! Her attitude seems crazy without context. She and her sister were f'd over, again and again, for years, because Europeans get nuts about ~*~ "black" ~*~ players. At American tournaments, that mystery shite disappeared. That ump was, pardon my french, completely f**king nuts. Dude had a chip on his shoulder.
The clip is an ugly throwback to the bad old days in European tennis. The man was looking for an opportunity to assert himself against the greatest tennis player in living memory, no matter who it was.
Serena Williams may very well have lost a fair match against her opponent. I can't deny it. But she wasn't offered a fair match. She was cheated out of it.

...prefer golf... folks are generally better behaved... with the exception of Tiger Woods... Golf has the advantage of being non-competitive. It's not so much face to face. No judge has to arbitrate disputes. And no single judge can easily hand a round to an opponent.
Serena Williams is a difficult character, but I admire that in her. She doesn't cheat on an ostensible husband with a hundred barmaids. She is just a woman who won't take any BS.

That all said, I'm 35, and I am in a health situation where I can't easily play tennis anymore.
Golf and bowling are now my preferred sports for actual play. Not to say they are less athletic, but they abuse different joints!

GOAT......Greatest of all time.....not in my books, Martina Navratilova would have put Serena @ second place in her prime. Both Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal would be no match for Serena Williams....JMHO. Only reason I matched Serena against two male tennis players is because of your statement “ Serena Williams is arguably the greatest tennis player of all time, male or female “. In their prime both Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova would definitely have been close matches with Serena. Martina had a much stronger backhand. If my memory serves me correctly Margaret Court won the most Grand Slams.

You made a statement and I quote......... ” Serena Williams may very well have lost a fair match against her opponent. I can't deny it. But she wasn't offered a fair match. She was cheated out of it “. Serena Williams may very well have lost a fair match against her opponent. ( she did ) I can't deny it. ( very true ) But she wasn't offered a fair match. She was cheated out of it. ( second two sentences contradict your first two sentences )

I loved watching Martina Hingis matches against both of them before Hingis got injured. Hingis always turned it into a chess match. It was really fun to watch her make them run all over the court. In those few matches she had with them before Hingis got injured. I have some very good gossip here worthy of the National Enquirer. My good friend was Captain of the college Tennis team back in 2000-2001 when the Williams sisters were still young and newly rich. He said they used to show up and flirt on all the guys on the tennis team - expecting to land hot guys because they had fame fortune and weight in the Pro-Tennis community - and nobody would touch them. He said not one person on that tennis team cared they were famous and rich. A guy one of them was throwing herself at, she was practically begging, offering to introduce him to people he didn't know yet. He politely declined. I am not nearly as good looking as all these Tennis guys... and I was broke ... sleeping in the lousy dorms .. eating Raman Noodles and canned tuna at that time. . And you could not even have paid me enough...
I realize this might not be an "appropriate" topic for this forum but nonetheless I could not resist.

She is the GOAT for women's tennis yes. Some people say Steffi Graf is the greatest. But going by the numbers alone Serena Williams is.

An interesting parallel is the passing of Arthur Ash. Remembering from the 1960s. RIP, Sir. You had a lot style and presence.
Back to Serena. I am not a tennis player. I like the game but I am too slow and uncorodinated to play it. Watching Serena is like a trip to another dimension. Such power and grace. Man, she is The Amazon of myth.
I have little interest in the politics of whatever beef has been created.
