Las Vegas is allot of fun and for anyone who doesn't know -you're allowed to smoke inside most Casinos and bars that don't serve food. But it seems like that could be changing soon.I've been to Las Vegas 40+ times and the Casinos are really starting to restrict smoking - more specifically pipes and cigar smokers. I first noticed it at the Paris Casino several years ago and it seems to have spread.
This time around I had a really nasty Blackjack dealer at Mandalay Bay claiming I was blowing smoke in her face, it was a slow night and shes putting fans on the table, saying she is here to deal not get lung cancer blow your smoke elsewhere - then attempted to steal 2 chips from me. She was called out for stealing by me. And immediately gave it back then continued like she did nothing wrong. A really miserable lady. I kinda felt sorry for her. But the funny part is .. as she was being really rude and nasty to me for smoking - I kept winning and winning and winning . Boy was she getting pissed! It was really funny to watch. I complained to the boss at the cage afterwards about her but nonetheless it was a lesson where smoking in Las Vegas is heading.
El Cortez .. shockingly .. also refused to allow me to smoke my pipe or a cigar - which is insane. The pit boss asked I put it out. I told him there is no sign on the table. And he puffs out his chest points to his suit and says "I'm the sign sir". Wow. Just wow.
El Cortez goes way back to the mafia days and they have always had the best Blackjack and the most libertarian rules. I was told flat out twice - you can't smoke your pipe here. On another table it was ok. Depending on who the dealer was. One night at a loaded table the dealer asked me to put out the pipe. And the PLAYERS all stuck up for me and said they didn't care if I was smoking this was Vegas people here to have fun .. leave him alone let him smoke .. etc and the dealer relented and "allowed it". Of course one of them asked for a cigar which I was more than happy to provide.
I stayed in Las Vegas on a short term lease for 5 months and visited all the casinos and can give anyone a good idea how it is. Some of them are just waiting to jump all over you for smoking pipes and cigars.
That being said. I will intentionally smoke in these hotels until someone tells me to put it out, in protest. I did this at the Paris and surprisingly nobody said anything for over an hour.

Too bad. I used to like playing blackjack, baccarat or craps and smoke cigars or pipes.

I'm glad you brought this up. I'm an Officer here in Vegas and I particularly work the Fremont Street area, to include the El Cortez. I work closely with all the casinos and their security so I'm going to formally ask them tonight when I go in what their policy is. Normally Fremont is the area that Vegas tries to keep classic, despite the Zipline and casino remodels, so I would hope most would allow pipe smoking. Poker rooms are the only for sure no smoking areas that I have ever heard of in a casino. I'm definitely going to talk to some higher ups so when I get a solid answer, I'll throw some names down here that you can drop the next time a salty pit boss tries to intimidate you with his $20 sport coat.

Support Palace Station. It's hosting the pipe show. The last couple of years the smoking rooms at the Palace Station had the strong smell of weed cover up the stale cigarette smell. I love Vegas but smoking started becoming more restricted years ago. We love wandering and people watching, years ago I could walk around with a cigar all day/night but now I just light up at a friendly location.

I think the high end resort casinos have decided upon a no smoking policy. I'd noticed this at several of the casinos on the Strip. I imagine it's different at the lower tier establishments like the Palace Casino where the older Vegas culture seems to be maintained, are open to smokers.
There are a few areas at the Palace Station, like the front lobby, that are no smoking zones, as well as no smoking floors. But in most of the Station you can smoke whatever you want.

Been to Vegas at least 4 times this year already, including Paris and never heard a peep from anyone about smoking a pipe. P.S. that being said I wouldn't be surprised if the times were a changing

People were smoking pot all over vegas last year, signs at my hotel said specifically no cigars. Nobody cared about pipes though. I dont think anyone needs to worry about it, a casino banning smoking would be suicidal

Times are changing, it was inevitable when smoking at a casino in Vegas would be a BIG no more!! Eventually there will be no more smoker friendly places other then your own property.....which in some cases can be an issue!

That's very generous of you ! I would also like to add ... I was playing with $5,000.00 in chips when I was told this by the pit boss. I said if you won't let me smoke my pipe I'm leaving and the girls there could not believe the guy would boot me for that especially considering I was playing with allot of chips.
Now I was only betting the minimums - but I was waiting for a serious losing streak before upping the bets. Just a little experiment I was trying to run. And each time I did it I never got a losing streak ... only breaking even. Weird. When I don't want to lose I lose. When I want to lose I win or break even.
They have no set policy. It feels like something at the discretion of the pit boss or employees. With all the anti smoking campaigns against foul cigarettes - are not the same as pipes - but it's all just the same to most people.
I can understand they have to work and don't want to breath in the smoke. However the casinos have expensive ventalation systems and they choose to work there so .. I mean it's like .. come on you know?

Things change. When I first went to Vegas, decades ago, you could get complimentary cigars even if you were playing at the cheap seats. Of course they were not top shelf cigars!

IMO ( I know I'm new here and already shooting off at the mouth .. ) IMO the Palace has become a low class bad neighborhood dive bar version of a casino. It was really, really dirty.
My first and last experience there was horrific and I will never be back. I was lured in by it's 19th century Southern looking Mississippi Riverboat appearance ... and it was just an awful crowd inside there with pimps and hookers and vagrants. That or these people just looked like it. The air was so stale. They were remodeling though. So maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe they have improved it since. This was in 2017 I was there. Ugh. Ugh, Ugh.
I went there to bet $5,000.00 on Paula Costa to beat Johnny Hendricks because the Stations had the best odds. I left because .... I realized if I won - it would mean I would have to go back there to collect my winnings. So I went to Cortez and found out they are also under the Stations but Cortez would not accept the bet nor Palace. They put in some kind of min max bet. So I ended up at Ceasars Palace for 2nd best odds. The Blackjack dealer at Palace (a young women) was extremely rude very hurry up hurry up and saying "please blow your smoke over there" and "I can still smell it" .
I'm making an obvious effort to blow to behind me to the side. Maybe I was just there on the wrong day. But I would rather me anywhere than that place. I got outta there ..

Yea .. . like from a neighbor who wants drama and is complaining about 2nd hand smoke right? People will believe anything if they are constantly told it.
They had no smoking signs at the beach park in Florida. I looked up the law and the signs are pure poker bluff. The State of FL says counties cannot ban smoking at public parks because of something called "preemption". Of course I am smoking a pipe there and 2 people (one Mom and a Mr. Tough guy) coming up saying "see the sign" "no smoking here buddy" .
I told them about the laws. Of course they don't care about the law. Only the no smoking sign.
Also the wind coming off the ocean was really crisp and clean 30+ MPH .. public health hazard oh My !

What you said about the strip is true. And I am smoking there regardless until someone asks me to leave because I feel the more people who continue to acquiesce to this .. the worse the restrictions will get. I don't understand why they want to lose money. I read that Harrahhs in New Orleans lost 25% in profit overnight when they banned smoking at slot machines.
At the Delano I was pretty much threatened by the loser bar manager ... because I was smoking there. I had been smoking for months there without any incident from customers or employees. I lit up at the bar. Nobody said anything. Nothing. Then one night out of nowhere this guy comes charging into the backroom literally like he wants to fight me on the spot - demanding I leave for smoking. I had spent hundreds on drinks at that bar and taken clients there a few times when they were in Vegas because it's very nice and upscale and a short walk back to the MAndalay Bay. I think Jeff was his name tag name. Full on "I'll fight you right now for smoking in here". I was the only person there. It was a slow night. Crazy.

That is both pretty nuts and totally unprofessional. The guy could have at least been polite about it. Vegas hotels have gone through several different approaches to trying to bring in business. Remember that they used to practically give rooms away to bring in family business. That worked for a while, until it didn't and now they charge a fairly significant room rate to make up revenue from those who come to Vegas for the shows and not for gaming. I imagine that they figure that the business lost to smokers will more than be made up by other people who appreciate a smoke free environment.

I think banning smoking will never happen. There may be a lot more divided casinos in the future. One or two of my trips there and to Reno I went to the locals' places. People smoked cigs with impunity and cigars etc were not frowned upon. If half the company I worked for in Saint Louis found themselves in LV there would be 100 smokers from one company. I am not trying to create a caste system, but blue-collar workers are the last bastion of smokers, as well as the lower class that robs the piggy bank to smoke because of high prices. Also, many Asians flocking to Las Vegas smoke.
So, at the very least, cigs will have a place. I suggest you all roll Exotic Passion and Penzance cigarettes. That's what I would do

So I just got off and didn't get a chance to even step foot in a casino today with how busy the rest of the area was lol. It's my weekend so i wont be back out there until Friday night but I'm still going to be thinking about this thread then. Vegas is changing in every way possible, and no matter how much people complain about something, Vegas doesn't care. Resort fees were the first to come. Everyone thought they would be the demise of the casinos, but they're still here and everyone is paying them. Next was paid parking. Once again everyone said it would be the demise of the casinos. Aaaaand here we are almost 2 years later, still paying for parking. Now I know this for sure, like what sablebrush52 was saying, lobbies and other "family friendly" parts of hotels have banned smoking. I could go on and on about dealers and the way they have changed over just the last couple of years, but that's a rant we don't need right now.

To be honest, I hate vegas. Too much going on for me. Too wild too crazy. I like to have fun but I like to have fun with people I know in my house. It is bullshit that they're trying to stop smokin indoors. Vegas is has always been a wild crazy place, and while it may not be my thing, I want it to stay that way incase I ever change.

Cannot smoke in the poker room but you can on the casino floor at Harrah's Cherokee in NC. Since I'm a poker player it kind of sucks. If I get hammered I go down the casino floor and smoke with a cocktail and unwind on a few games there and then back to the grind.

I used to go to Vegas 2 times a year but haven't been in 4 years. It has gotten so expensive and really a tourist trap atmosphere. Even the buffets have lowered quality and increased prices. It's difficult to get a drink while gambling and hotels have cut amenities. Only the highest end places still treat customers right and for that money I'd go elsewhere.

I dunno, the West Coast Pipe Show is pretty inexpensive, room and food. It depends on what you do.

I try to keep away from Vegas. Don't gamble either. Couple of friends who go to Tahoe and Reno say there are restricted areas for smoking and there are open areas. Cigars you can only smoke in official cigar lounges. $30 cigars and $30 drinks. Not my cup of tee.

I simply do not have the gambling gene and the whole feel/soul of Vegas doesn't appeal to me. It may have been cool back in the day. Rolling around in a big old Caddy in a cheap black suit... Take in an Elvis or Conway Twitty show. haha
Back on topic! -I think there will always be a few casinos that still cater to smokers. At least until the rest of us are gone.

The Indian Casinos around here are smoker friendly, I was really surprised when Darin told me that Cliff Castle near his home was non smoking. The Wild Horse Pass even has no restriction on smoking in the outlets mall at WH Pass... I don’t walk in the stores, but no one hassles me in the open areas.... the cig smokers hang out by the ashtrays near the entrances.... I don’t need an ashtray once I start puffing.
