I can't. Too many choices. First is to choose tobacco, than I have to choose a pipe... Enough of this. From now on I choose a blend I'm gonna smoke for the whole month and seven pipes. For the rest of September it'll be Comoy's Cask #7. October - S.G. 1792.

I hear ya, Ben. I've been trying to work down the open tins in my bag before opening anyting new. I like your choice for the next 2 months. I've been a big fan of 1792 for many years. Good luck with your endeavor.

I know exactly what ya mean and have only smoked 2-3 blends at a time since day one. I try to keep everything as simple as I can, K.I.S.S. is what my life is all about, don't how the others do it with 9-10+ blends going at the same time.

I like to mix it up, but I am trying to finish some open tins before starting a new one.

Just having arrived back in the pipe game a couple months ago, I’m still agog at all the tobacco choices. I won’t be going small on open tins for awhile, I’m having too much fun. I just came up the basement stairs with two pipes in my hand and commented I was headed to the smoking porch to try two new blends. My wife responded, “I can’t imagine you would have two new ones,” with more than a drop of sarcasm in her voice. She knows me well. However, I wish you well with your quest!

for long time, only two open at any one time. Both 8oz cans & '06 stamp date. C&D daVinci & Pease Blackpoint. Solves lots of "whatI do next"

I have a total of 32 different jars and ziplock trays of tobacco’s in use. I keep telling myself “ don’t open any new tins or sealed jars until I at least finish a minimum of 15 I have in use. I enjoy the change of pace. “ So many choices, so little time “!!

I’m a greenhorn who is getting in just before things get too bad with regulations. As such, everything gets put into jars and what I’m smoking gets put into smaller jars. I have so much to explore and when it’s new, I put blends against each other and load up two pipes. If it’s just a simple moment with my pipe and tobacco, then I’ll load up one pipe with what I know and like. In the future I guess I’ll figure out if I rotate and how I rotate. Knowing how I am, I feel I’ll just load up whatever I’m wanting at that time but I got a long road before I ever get to that point.

Browsing the cellar for that perfect smoke and pipe is half the fun.
If it’s jarred there’s no hurry for me.

Browsing the cellar for that perfect smoke and pipe is half the fun. If it’s jarred there’s no hurry for me. I have to agree. In my buffet cabinet I have over 100 blends that I like, some are pint jars of bulk tobacco, some are tins, but there is one of each which is deep cellared, If I crack a tin and don't burn through it, it goes into a jar....If I burn through a tin or jar, it gets repopulated from the deep cellar. There is really no downside.

I agree to an extent. When I go into the supermarket I can't help thinking, "do we really need 57 different varieties of toothpaste?" And like tobacco, I'd wager that many of them are exactly the same, just in different packaging. One box says cavity-fighting fresh mint, the other says plaque fighting cool mint - just as we have Vanilla Supreme, Vanilla Custard, Royal Vanilla, Vanilla Cavendish etc. etc. etc. TR lists 105 current blends with "vanilla" in the title! Some of these will be very different (Mac Baren Vanilla Flake vs VBC), but I'm sure others are exactly the same.

..smoke what you want when you want to... no rules... Wise words. I would find myself never wanting to smoke a blend again after having smoked it only for a month.

I like trying new blends and rarely smoke the same one twice in a row. But I do get annoyed when I smoke something new and don't enjoy it, and wish I'd stayed with something I know I like. There is nothing worse than trying something new and hating it. I smoke at most twice a day, most often every other day. So it really puts a damper on my day when I waste the first smoke in 2 days on a blend that I dislike.

I have two desk drawers filled with my open and actively smoking jars. They are both full. In order to avoid catastrophic overflow, I have set the rule that no opening a tin or bulk jar from the cellar until I have a space to put the jar. It seems to be working for the moment, but there are a few I am forcing myself to finish so iI can get to something new. I think if I forced myself to pick a single blend for a month I would go crazy.
I really like variety. I never buy more than a 6 pack of beer. I always pack something different for lunch.
My sister on the other hand is a creature of habit. I think she packed the same lunch everyday for 1st through 12th grade. Pepperoni with mustard on white bread. So it must work for some people.
