I'm in the middle ground on this. I like choices but I also don't go crazy with open tins. I have maybe 5-10 I rotate through, with some getting way more attention than the others.
I can absolutely respect choosing a single blend for the month, however.

I like trying new blends and rarely smoke the same one twice in a row. But I do get annoyed when I smoke something new and don't enjoy it, and wish I'd stayed with something I know I like. There is nothing worse than trying something new and hating it. I smoke at most twice a day, most often every other day. So it really puts a damper on my day when I waste the first smoke in 2 days on a blend that I dislike. That's about my rate, too. I guess if you smoke all day it's not as much of a factor, though. Maybe we just need to increase our smoking!

I don't really buy tins and don't think too much about the "aerobic vs. anaerobic aging" so every jar I have is a smokable jar.
I have been prepping for a new order of tobacco (kind of a big deal for me as I don't order very often) and I've been smoking through quite a few of my jars. It's kind of nice seeing the empty jars stack up after I smoke all the tobacco and wash them. It's like looking at a stack of potential.

I can't. Too many choices. First is to choose tobacco, than I have to choose a pipe... Enough of this. From now on I choose a blend I'm gonna smoke for the whole month and seven pipes. For the rest of September it'll be Comoy's Cask #7. October - S.G. 1792. I am with you Ben. I stick with my Billy Budd Blonde 85% 90% of the time. I occasionally try something different, just for a little diversity, but then its back to the Blonde. And it is usually a Savinelli 320EX or one of my chimneys. I am in sympathy with those who crave the diversity. It is a kind of golden age now, so now is the time to go for it. But more often for me its about the smoking moment, the wiff of what has become home, the over stuffed chair, and spending time with myself for a change.

I've been known to go on blend binges for days at a time, but then I move on. Sometimes I stick with a genre like Lakeland or English or straight Virginia; could be for only a pipeful or a week's worth... "no rules" has always been my rule in almost all things... whichever way my winds blow and moods strike. Got plenty to choose from.

Don't tell anyone but I've been known to mix tobaccos of varying ages in the same jar just because I don't want to take up space with a second jar 😛

I'm pretty new to this, so I've got a lot of open tins because I've been trying a lot of different blends to figure out what I like and what I don't. I could see settling down to a dozen or so regular blends to go with, but the variety is pretty daunting.

I understand why it seems daunting, Tom, but for those of us that have been at it for a while, it's terrific that we have so many tobaccos to choose from at this moment in history.

Approximately five years ago, I had something like eighty open tins/bags. It's down to single digits now which is more manageable but the ride was extremely educational and a hell of a lot of fun.

I've got lots of tobacco that I will likely never smoke now that I have narrowed it down to just Latakia blends that I smoke.
