Has anyone ever been to the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California? They host various events year round. It's a wonderful majestic ship with an amazing history. You can spend days exploring it. You will feel like you're traveling back in time on this thing. IF you go be sure to book one of the more expensive state rooms or the Suites if you have deep pockets. You will love it. The ship is also haunted. So if you're a bit sqimish it might not be for you. They allow you to smoke on the decks as technically Los Angeles police state anti-smoking laws do not apply - because it's a ocean vessel . It's such a wonderful ship. You will love it. Queen Mary Long Beach. One of a kind. Highly recommended.

Yo mich - Actually, Cunard had a sister liner, the Queen Elizabeth. IIRC, one ship had 2 stacks, the other had 3. In the 50's the liners were the standard way of crossing the pond, since BOAC jets, etc hadn't yet come into service. I loved these big ships compared to the smaller liners since their size made them very stable, which kept seasickness to a minimum. For some reason, I still remember the name of the steward who took care of me on 2 of my voyages - Rudyard was from some country town in the Midlands and had quite an accent. I stayed at the Queen Mary on one of my business trips to LA. Another time, I brought my youngest son with me on one of those trips and we had dinner on board. Your note makes me want to go back and visit the ship again. It is fantastic that I can still enjoy a pipe on board, even while docked at Long Beach.

Xuan and I got to see it in 91, I think. Before it was a hotel. I had never really flown before and it was my first trip to LA/Long Beach. Everything was flying by me so fast, but I do remember bits and pieces of it. As much as I love history it was a natch for me to enjoy this. Also got to meet the Crips and Bloods on that trip. Not the whole pack, just a few.

I used to visit my family in L.A. nearly every summer as a kid. Spent many many days on the beach taken by the majesty of that ship. I always wanted to go aboard, but never did. If I ever go back to L.A., that's definitely on my list of to-do's.

I went maybe 15 years ago. I had the leek soup and bought a Don Roberto pipe. We really took our time on the ship because we had just spent three days at Disney Land and could barley walk. Three days of Disney is like climbing Mount Everest in flip flops.

I've been on the ship a couple of times. It's quite striking. I believe they do a Halloween tour related to the hauntings.

I remember the life sized images of people who had been on the ship and the stories behind them. We weren't on a tour back then. We just had a lot of arrow pointing to this room or that. Been a Titanic fancier all my life so being on a ship like that one time was a major highlight

I lived/worked directly on the beach in Long Beach for many years before going. I was kicking myself for not going sooner. It's really something to behold. The interior is in remarkable condition considering it's age. They really did build build things to last. The ship has been outright neglected over many decades - yet still intact and floating. I'm going to cry when it sinks. It's the last of it's kind.

Yes. It's awesome. They had an old photography museum type exhibit years ago. So many people smoking pipes in those photos. I went to see the art of Winston Churchill. It wasn't really that good lol. I'm glad I got to see it though.
