I have been lurking about on the Briar Patch for a while and it seems like a friendly place with lots of nice folks and useful information/advice, so I decided to join.
I am a new pipe smoker, having just picked up my first pipe in May of this year, although I have smoked cigars off an on for a few years.
So I've gotten a few briar pipes so far, a couple of Savinelli, a Peterson, a Stanwell, and a Bruyere St. Claude, and a couple of corn cobs and I've been trying a lot of different tobacco blends and am starting to get a feel for what I like and don't like.
Looking forward to learning more about this great hobby.

Welcome from Kansas! Nice pipes. I’m a returning pipe smoker after 3 decades of cigar smoking. The tobacco choices are amazing these days. Have fun!

It's hard to know where to start. It seems the typical advice for a newbie is to get a basket pipe and start smoking Captain Black's aromatic. I didn't really take that route.

Welcome to The Briar Patch Tom tr , and hope you enjoy your stay with us What pipe tobacco blend have you been enjoying the most since May of this year? Right now I'm gravitating towards English blends and some aromatics. Kramer's Fr. Dempsey, SG's Squadron Leader, Early Morning Pipe, H&H White Knight, SPC Plum pudding, and H&H Magnum Opus, which I just tried today, and liked very much. I also have managed to get a can of Frog Morton. The aromatics that I have tried and liked are: CAO Eileen's Dream, Two Friends English Chocolate, Peter Stokkebye Sweet Vanilla, and C&D Autumn Evening.

Welcome from Ireland. I used to be a lurker, but jumping into the pool was a great experience. There are a load of great people here who can steer you right and help you discover what you like best and what works for you.
Oh, you may need to clear out a room in your house too.
