I live in Florida, so am well acquainted with hurricanes. About this time last year we had Irma, which knocked out our power for a few days, but otherwise, caused no damage to our property or home other than a few tree limbs in the yard.
My youngest daughter is in Norfolk, VA, as her husband is in the Navy and stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln.
I see Smokingpipes.com's service is going to be disrupted because of the storm. They are located in SC, aren't they?
Anyone here being effected?

I'm in SC, and while we're a few hours from the beaches in Wilmington & south, we will have some wind and lots of rain. Some forecasts are saying 3" for us, others saying we could get as much as 6-7" on Sunday into Monday. My boss and his wife live in Wilmington; they're never the first to leave...but they've already made their exodus. I don't think Flo is playin'.

Some predictions even have 50+ mph winds by the time this reaches Charlotte. Praying for everyone in the storms path.

Meteorology is an inaccurate science!! This almost exactly what my first grade teacher always said, "Weather is NOT an exact science!"

Sailtop Beach is getting flattened. They already Use sandbags to keep the ocean out and it barely works.
They had a house for sale last.year directly on the beach for 150k. Only issue was the 1st floor was already flooded through the garage. Realtor claimed the sand was coming back buy now and get a million dollar beach house for cheap.
I always wondered if the buyer primed it for insurance fraud. Insure a beach house for 1 mil + that's about to get claimed by mother nature etc.

Aside from people, the main US tobacco production is in the crosshairs.

Aside from people, the main US tobacco production is in the crosshairs. There was just a NC Department of Agriculture warning on TV that tobacco crops, cotton crops and sweet potato crops have not been harvested completely as of yet. The crops that are ready have been harvested and more will be early tomorrow morning. There is a possibility of a high percentage of crop loss due to the hurricane that now has it’s eye on the Wilmington area. It’s been downgraded to a category 3, let’s Pray the number drops and it’s declared a tropical storm, which will do damage but far less than a hurricane!

Now more towards Wilmington, no longer Cape Hatteras. By Thursday night when it hits we’ll know for sure! I was in Wilmington back in Ought 1. Love saying "Ought 1". I feel like a genuine old timer! Anyway, that city has a large population of poor folks. Really poor people. I am worried about what happens to them. I cannot imagine they have the resources to evacuate. Where would they go? Hopefully, the City of Wilmington is looking after them. We do not need another Hurrican Katrina type disaster with bodies floating for months. I have a niece in Charleston, SC. She is a public health worker and has to stay behind while her family evacuates. Good luck, Silvi. Praying for you and know you will do what is expected because that is who you are.

Respect the storm. If the hurricane wants to be where you are, go somewhere else.

The hurricane reports keep changing every 2 hours. Now looks like Myrtle Beach will be hit with hurricane Florence......UPDATE more tomorrow. The City of Wilmington has set up a number of safe shelters. Hopefully Florence will be downgraded once again.

I experienced 80-100MPH winds directly on the beach. It was kind kinda fun, actually.

Not going to be more than 30 mph winds here in Charlotte but these ignorant southern backwards people are still buying up every loaf of bread and gallon of milk within a 100 miles. Milk is the first thing to spoil once you lose refrigeration. Some things will never change.

I responded to 8 maybe 10 hurricanes during my Coast Guard career. I would not consider any of them fun. But that’s just me.

BIG ^^^^^^^^^^ +1. I was a Volunteer Fireman & NY State Certified EMT.......I’d NEVER consider any hurricane fun. Super storm Sandy devastated the coast of New Jersey, Staten Island and Long Island.....those rescues were far from fun!

Three days ago we were suppose to get 14 plus inches of rain. Yesterday the weather report changed to “ maybe 2” of rain “. Now a new weather report.....we can get as much as 10” of rain!! Duke Energy just made a statement “ Duke Energy customers may lose power for weeks, not days “!! WELL, THAT’S REALLY ENCOURAGING👍👍👍

An an aside, 300 millions dollars is a lot to lose - but that's also a substantial amount that the farmers get for tobacco - and that's only those affected by the storm. The tobacco industry isn't dead yet.
I saw a few videos yesterday of storm surges coming around beach houses. I wouldn't like to be living in a beach house when the storm hits. I hope our own P-uffy is safe and secure, or even out of the way of the storm.
Thoughts and prayers with the lot of you.
