I'm guessing that some of you aren't big baseball fans.I really enjoy though sitting in my chair at night and smoking my pipe while watching a game on TV...Now to my point..I'm wondering what's with all these young players and their full beards. Some of them even grow beards and shave their heads. Are beards a trend in the general population these days ?Three of my good friends have grown beards.Maybe I'm just noticing it more.Anyone here have a beard? I'm fairly safe in saying that JimInks is likely watching a game right now and eating better than most of us I've had a beard since I was a teenager, and even though it could make my face hot when I played semi-pro, I wasn't going to shave it off. I have always kept it short and trimmed though. I did cut my hair short when played, and have kept it that way since.
If God told me that I had to pick between baseball and pipe smoking, I'd say, "I just became a Buddhist!"

Having been a suit and tie guy most of my adult life, I've been clean shaven.
About 4 years ago I accepted a position as a VP of Ops (COO) of a software company, my dress code was golf shorts, golf shirts & flip flops 90% of the time. Subsequently I grew a mustache and goatee. Being in my 50's, it was mostly grey. :-(
The beginning of this year I accepted a new position with an international company, back to suits and occasionally a tie.
About half of our company has mustaches, beards or both. I have re-grown the mustache and goatee this last month, but not sure if I'm gonna keep it?

I grew my first full beard when I was 16, but didn't keep it very long. I've always preferred having a beard, but was clean shaven for most of my career, as I worked in a very conservative corporate environment. I've had my current beard for about four years and don't intend to ever shave it off again.

I have had beard since I had to stop shaving for catholic high school, usually I switch it up every couple months but in the winter I let it grow . My wife says that I shouldn’t cut it off again , I enjoy the up keep and care , also love baseball I think Boston started it with a superstition on not cutting it until they won. Hockey does the playoff beard the. You have the kids that just don’t take care of, I call them neck beards. The one I’m growing now will grow as long as I can tolerate it. Then some trimming next summer.

I'm a bit like roadsdiverged . I shave my head with a razor and have a beard. I've done so since 2014. Now, my girls won't let me shave. Beards are in trend these days. It won't be long before culture changes and beards are for old or uncool people. Beards are starting to go out of fashion again for sure.

The rest of us will stay bearded. Works for me.

I stopped cutting the hair on my head the day Uncle Sam stopped telling me what to do every day. I had a regulation moustache in the military but now I have a full paint brush... I keep my cheeks and chin shaved just because most of my girlfriends have told me to through the years.
Beards are in with the young generation right now. That part of the 60s/70s is back. Moustaches... still a codger thing, always will be, probably.

I know lawyers with well-kept beards. I grew my first beard in 1972 and kept it until the Commandant ordered the Coast Guard to go clean shaven. Grew it back in 1993 when I retired. I don’t trim it from August until January. I go for the Santa look from Thanksgiving until Christmas and we’re mostly red shirts and sweaters
imgur.com/Gj30Y6AI hear you Pappy. A lot of people that were retirement eligible retired rather than cut their beards. I had to go get a new ID card... I stayed clean shaven with a cheesy mustache for the next 25 years until I retired. When I went on terminal l leave in Dec 2012 I quit shaving and have had a beard ever since. When I got to the point that I didn't have any hair on the top of my head I started cutting my hair close to the scalp. That was probably about close to 20 years ago. I shaved it for a while, but now I just cut it really close with my clippers. I have to say I miss going to the barber. I now keep my beard trimmed pretty close. I never really allowed it to grow too thick or long, but that is mainly because my wife likes it short.

I've heard people say that about people retiring because of having to shave but just don't remember it happening. As I recall, the order to shave went out just about 30 days before we had to be clean shaven. The retirement process I went through in 93 took 3 months. I did know a few people who shaved their beards, put them in envelopes and mailed the shavings to headquarters though. Just saw that you live in Spanish Fort. I'll have to touch base with you the next time my wife and I decided to go to that area antique shopping. We usually stay at the Homewood Suites or Hilton Garden Inn in Daphne.

True story, (not a no shitter ) I was a BM2 at a small boat station in Georgia when the word on the beards came out. I walked into the previously bearded EPO's office and he was clean shaven and had I pile of hair on his desk and an envelope. I asked him what he was doing and his reply was "The f*&$%ng Commandant wants my beard, so I am sending it to him" I don't know if he mailed it or not, but I suspect that he did. I heard from a guy I met that worked at HQ during that time that they actually did receive quite a few envelopes full of beard hair. Ha!
