As everyone is probably aware, there's a pretty sizeable hurricane coming ashore as we speak.
The good thing for most of us here in the Carolina's is that we had more than enough time to prepare.
I had been traveling for work this week and had to modify my schedule to get home early to batten down the hatches.
This gave me time to clean out all of my gutters and down spouts, secure all of the lawn and deck furniture and to stock our cupboards with extra everything.
Now we're sitting here almost anticipating the pending pummeling we're sure to get. I know that sounds odd, but there is an unnerving calm in the weather outside. The skies are completely grey, the wind is mostly calm with the occasional gust to 10mph or so.
Blondie, Jenni, Seth and Kaley (Jenni's HS friend) are down stairs playing monopoly with Hank @ their feet. I'm up in the cave enjoyin a glass of bourbon n water and starting my 2nd pipe of the evening.
Guess I'll finish the book I started on the plane yesterday and, well, have another pipe or three and brace for the wind and rain we're expecting.
Here's hoping that the damage is minimal, for everyone, and that the losses are small.

I hope everyone in the path stays safe. I keep an eye on all of the storms and was happy (as one can be given the circumstances) to see the storm weaken today.
Stay safe everyone.

Glad to hear that you have a plan. I was impressed at how the FEMA director said that the local governments are in charge and that the federal government is there to aid the local governments, and that they had pre-postioned assets...ultimately, individuals need to be proactive in taking whatever measures need to be taken for the safety of them and their families. If I was back there, though roosting in Dino's shack/lounge with a kayak tethered on the roof and a chainsaw at hand would not be a bad way to make a last stand.

Although it's going to be around for a while.. Saturday..Is predicted to be the worst day in my neck of the woods,,30 mile an hour wind and tons of rain.I have a lot of trees in my area, but none that I think will hit my house..At least I hope not.

I spent a good part of my younger life in Kansas and the threat of tornado's...saw a big one as a kid.
Lived in California from 1980-2005 and always laughed at my family in Kansas that said "How can you live there knowing that an earthquake can hit at anytime?"
My response was "At least with a tornado you have the stress when you hear the sirens and the impending twister, with an earthquake by the time you know what is going on, it is over."
In Arizona, it would suck without the electrical grid up and running in the summer, but it would be survivable, I just make sure that I have plenty of wood and fuel to cook up what is in the freezer, and I have cases of spam and dehydrated food to last a spell...and a lot of water and toilet paper, and guns and ammo, and tobacco, and whiskey.

Wishing you a safe experience, and I hope it blows over quickly (literally). You've prepared yourself well so hopefully next time you check in all will be calm again. I hope there isn't much clear-up after either.
Take care of yourself and your loved-ones.

Thanks Steve, greatly appreciated 👍 How is it now, Ted? Had no power for just over 2.5 hours....it’s back now and will most likely go out later this evening. Just extremely heavy rain right now and wind gusts up to 45 mph. Suppose to get worse in a few hours here in Knightdale. Still under a tornado watch. Thanks for asking Paddy....you’ll always be number ONE in my book....that’s far better then number Two.... 🤪😜😂

We are loaded with representatives to help I think it will be crazy for us after the storm.

Those flooded out cars will be sold after sitting in floodwaters as clean cars inside and our....it’s happened prior. Once a claim is put in, the insurance companies condemn the vehicles. Always trace a Vin number if purchasing a used car in areas that are known for flooding!! PEOPLE LIE, as if you don’t know @ 30...lol.
