Expensive. $25 per tin.
Fungus or Mold growing on top of tobacco. Won't light and won't stay lit. Tastes like sour hay - rotten garbage. The tobacco literally has citrus rot or some other kind of rot topped on it.
Total crap. I would strongly recommend NO.

You received a bad batch.........it’s a tobacco I’ve enjoyed prior.
Like I stated prior..,call P&C, ask to speak with Russ Ouellette. He will refund your money if you explain the mold issue.

Can you post a picture of the mold? Have you contacted P&C? Have you ever smelled pure Perique before?
Thanks!

I've smoked 3 tins of Acadian Gold. Never had a mold problem.

It's not my favorite, but I've not experienced any mold issues with the tins I've opened. Contact P&C's customer service department and they should take care of you. I've never paid anywhere near $25 for a tin. The most I paid was around $16-17. I won't buy any of these releases unless they're on sale.

These experimental blends are for a certain type of pipe smoker, specifically someone who loves perique. Maybe one out of a thousand. And the descriptions make it clear that you are taking a chance on something that hasn't been done before. It is like they decided to bottle unaged Laphroaig at still strength. And throw in a sardine for good measure, like the worm in Mescal.

Perique contains many terpenes (scent molecules) that resemble a cheesy / mousy / musty smell.
Here's a few of them:
3-Methylbutanal 2-Methylbutyric acid 3-Pentanone Isobutyric acid

I've got an open tin of the Golden Triangle St. James Perique right now and the tin note is like a cheesy, sweaty, brownie. LOL ... "Badassatone" makes "scents" too!! hahaha

I have a bunch of tins of that put away; hope it doesn't happen to any of my tins. Tried it at a pipe club meeting and really enjoyed it.

I had a similar experience, mine was slightly moldy, I threw it out but did pay $16 for it. Maybe I should have called to explain to P&C but I didn’t.

Yo michael and Scott - this unique tobacco did not have much anti-fungal agent applied and is shipped fairly damp. Especially during the summer, spores that are flying around everybody's house find the damp tobacco happy hunting (or maybe breeding) grounds. The solution would be a spray of calcium propionate or something similar. Otherwise, the easiest remedy is to dry the tin out for a few days once you pop it. I like my stuff crispy anyway, so that's an easy fix for me. I bet you didn't see your mold develop until a few days after you opened the tin.
