Nice pictures Don, nothing like getting away and enjoying nature on vacation. I grew up around Colorado Springs, and my mom's family is from Howard, (between Salida and Canyon City on the US 50). Colorado Springs has so much to do, Manitous Springs, Graden of the Gods, Cheyenne Canyon, Pikes Peak, NORAD, rafting the Arkansas river, etc...and that is just scratching the surface. I haven't been to Cripple Creek since the sixties, I used to go with the old man back in the day. That's the kinda place in which I often think it would be nice to live. A street with a bar that everyone frequents, a diner and a hardware store. A place where everyone knows you. I'm viewing this idealistically, but that's the best way.

Cripple Creek used to be that way. Now it is a casino town. Victor, next door is becoming more like the old Cripple Creek. Both are gold mining towns. There is a massive open pit gold mine operating in Cripple Creek. You can see it in Google Earth. It is impressive. At it's peak Cripple Creek had a population of 35,000 and Victor was 17,000. Now Cripple Creek is probably about 1500 and Victor is 400.

If you look real close, you can just make out Rooster Cogburn rushing Lucky Ned Pepper, Mexican Bob and the Parmalee brothers. That was Oklahoma Territory, if memory serves. Filmed in Colorado.

Nothing beats getting away into the mountains. I am lucky enough to own some property above Scofield Reservoir in Utah. 2 or 3 times a year I get away. Looks similar to your pictures in certain areas but other areas are sage brush. Lucky I am up high enough that it is all pines and aspens.

That was Oklahoma Territory, if memory serves. Filmed in Colorado. That's right. I'd forgotten that.
