Enjoying the last day of my forest vacation. This is the view from the deck. We rented a nice home in the Black Forest outside of Colorado Springs for the past week. Back to work on Thursday.

Thanks guys. Living in Denver, you would think I got to do this kind of thing all the time. Truth is, I get up in the mountains or out in the woods about 5-6 times a year.

On the way to Cripple Creek now. Might put twenty dollars in the slots, but no more than that.

I have always loved Colorado, every thing but Coors Beer on tap. Worst tasting beer I ever had the displeasure of drinking. I'll stick to Coors in a can.

I love beer on tap also but at the time I lived there they didn't clean the tap lines and funk would grow in the line and make the beer taste crappy

The customers had no idea that it was happening! heres my theory, if you drink a Pepsi every day at 2pm served to you be Lola the bar keeper and Lola starts putting a small pinch of salt into your Pepsi and gradually increasing it every day you would never notice and after a month or so she would be adding a handful of salt and you would notice no different taste at all. I think this is the case with the beer and mildew.

My wife tried to get me into the micros and I just can't do it, give me an Old Style and I'm happy I hear you, dad isn't much into microbrew beers usually, it's hard to beat old standbys sometimes. Some microbrewers try to make things that appeal to both audiences. I can think of a few of these types of local brews, especially pilsners, that are excellent.

I'm not much on loud bars etc. Although, OMB In Charlotte is a German style beer hall, complete with German food, and an outdoor beer garden where you CAN SMOKE! AND EAT! IN PUBLIC! I'll drink there anytime

I hate to say it but I live in a quiet place on the water among trees. If I go on vacation there will be a big city pipe show and/or destination cigar shops involved.

Beautiful drive heading north from Victor, CO. If you look real close, you can just make out Rooster Cogburn rushing Lucky Ned Pepper, Mexican Bob and the Parmalee brothers.

Nice pictures Don, nothing like getting away and enjoying nature on vacation. I grew up around Colorado Springs, and my mom's family is from Howard, (between Salida and Canyon City on the US 50). Colorado Springs has so much to do, Manitous Springs, Graden of the Gods, Cheyenne Canyon, Pikes Peak, NORAD, rafting the Arkansas river, etc...and that is just scratching the surface. I haven't been to Cripple Creek since the sixties, I used to go with the old man back in the day.

The Springs does have a lot of possibilities for entertainment. It is growing like crazy. I did not make it up Pikes Peak this time but I did ride the Cripple Creek/Victor narrow gage again after a gap of about 45 years. Good times. Vacation is over now. Heading home shortly.
