Relative noob here; West Central Iowa. Been lurking a while and figured I'd better introduce myself. Tried to smoke a pipe when I was younger but couldn't control my inhaling instinct. Cigarette smoker for close to 30 yrs. Quit those in 2003 due to heart condition. The last year or so I've been picking up a few cheap briars on ebay and trying out a few different styles of tobacco. Turns out I'm more of a burley guy. I haven't found any aros that I enjoy much but have enjoyed some flakes (Drexel VIII, PS Luxury Navy) Golden Sliced not as much if that says anything about my tastes. My current favorite is a 60/40 mix of LL Ready Rubbed and PS Dark Fired. I find it mild and delicious.
Love to tinker so I've converted a couple pipes to accept 9mm filters as I prefer a filtered pipe. Made a few tampers and my own stands from old belts and also an ashtray from an old tin. Kind of obsessed with lighters but am also very cheap. Those things are for future threads I guess.
Like to smoke while I read on my deck with vanilla coke or bourbon and club soda. The wife doesn't care much for it (she's a former nail smoker also) so I don't smoke every day but do enjoy it when I get the chance. Happy to be here and hope to learn from those with more experience.
