I wasn't sure this was going to work but it did! A customer sent me a bowl with a shank extension and a ramped airway. It had the end of a Q-tip stuck in it just above the draft hole. I wasn't going to be able to use a straight drill bit. I went to the hardware store and bought a 1' length of 1/8" twisted cable. I wasn't sure how much I was going to need. I cut off a 4" piece, chucked it in my electric drill and carefully threaded it into the airway until it stopped. Slowly drilled and checked to see if I was getting any cotton fibers. Yes! Took it slowly and eventually got it all out! Of course I was very proud of myself.

Well done, now make sure to tell your customer not to use Q-tips for cleaning.

I often use Q-tips for cleaning. They are so darn effective. I once had the swab end come off and lodge stubbornly in the airway of a pipe I was cleaning. A section of wire clothes hanger bent to follow the airway pushed the swab forward far enough into the bowl that I could grasp it with tweezers and pull it free. Twisted cable and a drill might have made lighter work of removing the swab.
