My pipe cracked yesterday afternoon, its not all the way through, but I'm still wondering what to do, of course replace it, but can I salvage it for a car pipe in some way? imgur.com/gallery/uUX1YLN

How did that happen? Was it the heat or was it dropped or accidentally broken?

How did that happen? Was it the heat or was it dropped or accidentally broken? A combination of a moist day and heat. Sad too it was one of my better pipes, and great grain.

I appears that the bowl cracked do to excessive heat, moisture and possibly a flaw in the bowl material. A better picture of the whole area of the bowl would be better. It also appears the pipe has taken a fall or two in which can contribute to this event. Also a picture of the interior would prove useful.

The best repair is to saw out the cracked area, high temp epoxy in a briar sliver. That s pretty involved and doesn't always work well. A quick and dirty option would be to stop drill the crack at the end, fill with a carbon paste, and smear a paste on the inside to give some protection, and let the crack expand and contract with the stop drilled hole as a partial safety. Also might not last long, but worth a try. What i use as a paste is charcoal powder mixed with a little maple syrup. When thst gets hot and carmelizes, it's pretty hard. Another option is to stop drill, wedge open the crack a LITTLE then force in some epoxy with a pick and lightly clamp it. None of them are certain for long term, but can work indefinitely. I epoxied a pipe back together that had cracked into jig saw puzzle pieces, and it has lasted about 50 smokes so far.

Its a chacom and appeared flawless, the crack is only superficial, and doesn't effect anything too badly but is still disapointing.

You show the crack on the outside. Is it cracked all the way through to the inside?

You show the crack on the outside. Is it cracked all the way through to the inside? Nope I'd continue to smoke it if it doesn't leak air or moisture. I have a cracked cob that I continue to smoke because the crack sealed itself with carbon from smoking.
