It was packed to the gills just like last year. Takes the pure and natural feel of virginal nature away. It's nice it's free, but I think I'd rather pay for the privledge of less crowds next time. Just saying.

If you're ever going to spend time at the Grand Canyon, a "back-country" pass is the way to go. It gives you access to camp and hike places off the beaten path. One of my favorites is called Soap Creek Canyon ... excellent trout fishing and no people.

Legal to carry a gun if state regulations allow it too.

Took the train, stayed in the hotel, and took the bus tour. Got to spend a total of 45 minutes at the rim after dropping almost 2 grand. Of course I was using 2 canes just to get around so I couldn't have done much more anyway. My friend used to hike down in the Havasupai canyon all the time, while I was at work. Ah, misspent youth. Can't get it back.

As you can see behind me there were patches of snow, and the wind went through the bones...that stinks that your trip was during fire season.

Not too bad ... one spot that requires a little wall shimmy and lowering packs on a rope. There's usually a rope already there but I always take my own just in case. One really cool thing you can find on that hike are dinosaur tracks.
