I heard this song while having my coffee and pipe this morning. "As much as it lieth within you, live peaceably with all men", is certainly good advice for dealing with your fellow man, but even more so within the family, left unresolved I have seen that fester and eat as a cancer. Sometimes sadly, there are irreconcilable differences that we face in life, that don't allow restoration to go forward. Often, I have seen where trivial matters lead to mounting attitudes that lead to downright revulsion of one another. In another lyric from Mike Rutherford, "nobody's perfect": A pretty good article on Mike and what led to the writing of the song. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/jan/25/mike-rutherford-precious-living-years-father

I haven't spoken to my ex wife in over a year.
I still love her but the fact remains that you can love someone or something that does you harm.
She acted as a parasite or a leech on my life energy and Vijñāna.
A lot of heroin addicts love heroin. It doesn't mean they should continue to abuse the drug.

trailboss thanks for sharing with us Charlie! Cool! I've learned a new word विज्ञान i.e., "don't mess with my vijnana"

Great observation Charlie. At its essence, life is about relationship. Whether consciously or unconsciously, it is up to each of us to tend to the quality of our relationships with all that surrounds us.

Charlie... sensitive thing to post... great song... I'm sure we all have relationships that went sideways that we wish we could rectify... I know I do... hope it's not a life-changing event for you...

Thanks guys,
It hit kind of close to home this morning, years ago my sister made a comment on Facebook towards our cousin that is generally a really nice person...things blew up between them and my cousin has dug her heels in and refused to talk it out and move on. My sister is slowly dying from ALS, and she desperately would like to mend that fence, but to no avail, and it is really bothering her...whereas it takes two to tangle, it takes two to reconcile. I think that my sister will get past it before she leaves the stage, but I hope that it doesn't continue to cause my cousin to continue in her anger about it. It was nice to hear the song this morning as a reminder...hopefully as we go into the holiday season, it can offer some food for thought.
life is too short as it is...

Life is far too short to hold grudges and bare unfoegiveness. I hope your cousin sees sense.

I’m still in Knightdale, NC at my ex’s home helping her get around better. She’s my ex since ‘75, but the mother of “ our “ 2 children. We are better friends now then when we were married👍👍👍
Now, wash your dirty minds.....there is NO hanky panky!!

Physical attraction shouldn't be ignored if it exists I am glad you two are are amicably coexisting on this planet,

If you love someone...tell them before it is too late.

I am guessing that both your fathers were the WWII generation?
I think that was just kind of the way it was back then.

"less than 30 minutes " You, too? Some of us have led a tough life. My Dad was a tough Marine during WWII......he was a sniper. My Mom ( Rest In Peace ) tried for years to cover up what my Dad went through after the war. His closest friend did not come home! I was extremely close to my Mom....my Dad not at all. I will always love him because he was my Dad, but I did NOT like the person he was at all.

I think being on the battlefield, hearing the last words of your dying buddies crying out for their moms had quite a hardening effect.
I certainly can not comprehend what that must have been like. God bless them.
