I just saw a post from Scott from Aristcob.com on Instagram saying that his Dagner Poker gurgles a lot. He's smoked about 5 of them and they all gurgle. A few people who have replied have also concurred.
Since I'm a drooler, I think I've just dodged a bullet. I was going to place an order for this pipe this week...not anymore. I don't want to take the risk - plus I don't NEED another pipe.
Does anyone here have the Dagner Poker Cob and find it gurgles?

Paddy, I own 3 Dagner Poker Pipes, not one of them ever gurgled . Might be because I make a pipe mud mix and fill the bottom of the chamber on both sides on where the shank protrudes into the chamber. Also in front of the shank in the chamber. Also, I don’t drool. Some Cob smokers from what I’ve read on many forums actually let the shank burn completely off until it’s flush to the chamber wall. Since mine is coated with a thin layer of pipe mud the shank has not burned off on any of my Cobs. Two of my Dagner Cobs have 2,500 plus uses, never a gurgle and the shank now has a layer of thin cake.
Your a drooler, so you might have issues with any type of pipe?!?!?! Do you only smoke filtered pipes? The filters help collect moisture as well as tar. I know you have a few briars, any gurgle?
If I have a pipe that gives me an issue, Cob or briar I build up the bottom of the chamber with pipe mud even just below the draft hole. I own 250 plus Pipes, not one gurgles......including ALL OF MY COBS. I don’t smoke many Legend Cobs, the chamber does not hold enough tobacco for my liking. Perfect pipe for my in between wait for doctors visits👍👍

Yea, cos I'm a drooler I think I may come into problems with this pipe.
I've found that filters eliminate gurgle for me so it's not the tobacco or drying etc. it's what's coming from me.
No biggie.

Get yourself another MM Country Gentleman pipe, you’ll have a new Cob that’s filtered. Plus money left over to get one of your favorite tobacco’s 👌👍👍

My degner Cobb or any of my cops for that matter don't Hertel but I grind out the shank and feel with pipe mud to the draft hole and I don't consider myself to be a drooler

I really want to get into this thread and I can't, because of all the well educated people here. My GED doesn't work here.

I too am a drooler, evidently, because just about every non-filtered pipe I own gurgles. I have the Dagner Cob Poker, but I haven't smoked it in some time. I do believe that when I smoked it, it gurgled. If it ever stops raining here I will take it out and give it another go and check back with you.

Thanks, Lady Margaret. And @johnr, I appreciate your contributions. You've more experience with cobs than me.

I think pipes (any one of them, independently of the brand and shape) will gurgle when you pack the pipe with tobacco that has not sufficiently dried and/or was packed too tight and was too moist. A lot of people say their Peterson gurgle but I never has the problem per se. Sure, there's the odd piece of tobacco that ends up at the end of the stem but that's different.

I've got the identical Dagner cob poker, smoking aromatics in it, and zero gurgle. Scott has several of these and they all gurgle, so I'm attributing it to smoking style / blend, or combo.

I reckon he's got more experience in smoking cobs than I do, so I think my technique needs work and I'd be best staying away from unfiltered pipes for now. Thanks for thinking of me.
