A question for those of you that does restorations.
Would you do an alcohol treatment to a Falcon or Viking style bowl? If so how would you do it? I have a couple of Viking bowls I would like to do
Thanks John

John, remove the bowl and soak the entire metal portion of the pipe in 50 to 70% isopropyl......nothing stronger. I use a small narrow tub from one of my smaller TV dinners I save, well cleaned of course. After soaking for an hour or so run a few pipe cleaners through until all the tar and residue has been removed. I’ve used this procedure for many years. Every pipe smoker has his/her own method for cleaning pipes. It’s never harmed the stem, which I coat with a mixture of bee’s wax and mineral oil. None of my stems have oxidized since using this method.

I would fill the bowl with kosher salt and Everclear... the nastiness leaches out the crap.

Ted got the stem correctly, Trailboss got the bowl correctly sorta!
Now tell him how to keep the cleaning fluid in the bowl since it's open on both ends. Good Day gentlemen!

Yup, that’s why I just let my Falcon or Viking pipes sit submerged in isopropyl alcohol. The Kosher salt treatment can eat away the plated or anodized portion of the pipe.

I also use 70-90 % isopropyl alcohol on my stems and several pipe cleaners. Never tried to sanitize a Viking or Falcon bowl.
The wife found a lot of 5 pipes on the bay it had a Twin Flo and another pipe with a white nylon stem looking at the bowl I can't tell if it is wood or brylon. Thinking more towards brylon because of the tooling marks.
The twin flo will not be smoked unless a different bowl can be found

The bowl should be cleaned separately if it requires more than a wipe. The Viking bit is removable, so it is just a straight tube and very easy to clean with a pipe cleaner, bristles if needed, but I can't imagine one getting that bad.

Knock Knock! Hello any body there!
I believe he is asking how to clean the BOWL , How to do the salt treatment with holes on both ends. The fluid will drain out if not plugged.
LOL! scrooge

LOL! scrooge I just re-read and see he was asking about the “ bowl “.....guess I was half asleep. On a Falcon or Viking bowl I’ve never had one that needed more than a minor reaming and alcohol soak. Roll up a piece of paper towel to finish cleaning and drying the chamber. I use my Dremel with 2 different polishing wheels, with White Diamond and Carnauba wax on the outer portion of the bowls.

Put a plug of chewing gum in one end. That might do the trick.

Cork is my suggestion...I use a cork in the shank and in the bowl with Meers that need dipping in hot beeswax...did the same when painting my 2 legends (Paddy had mentioned painting one of his black, which I did also).
