On PBS now they are showing the Maigret series done by the BBC and folks, he smokes a pipe through every episode. Beside the pipe smoking it's the Maigret stories are well worth watching! For those who are not familiar with Maigret he's a detective in the Police Judicaire that the Belgian writer Georges Simenon created back in the '50s/'60s. BTW Simenon was a prodigious pipe smoker supposidly owning over 300 pipes and his tobacco of choice was ROYAL YACHT !

Indeed. As much as I love Sherlock Holmes, one need only read a few Maigret stories to learn that he was much more of a pipe-smoker than Holmes.

What times it on? I like some of those old timey detective shows, and ending a scene with a pipes much better than ashing a cigerette.

Is that the one with Rowan Atkinson? Yes! He does a bang up job as Maigret almost as good as Jean Gabin did in the 195's film "Maigret sets a Trap"

I am watching the Maigret series now with Rowen Atkinson. The stories are great, and the pipe smoking is awesome. I've already spotted a Dunhill billiard (2nd episode) and a Comoy's bent billiard (1st episode); although, I am typing on the computer while watching the show on Britbox. I could be paying better attention, if I had more free time right now.

I'm a fan of all the Maigrets that have appeared on screen. Atkinson seemed a stretch but he does a very good job. I purchased the series and have watched them several times. The take on Maigrets is different but very effective. It is a pity that there apparently will not be any more.
