So there I was, in the kitchen, in my birthday suit digging around the fridge for my coffee. Grabbing it I headed for my comfy chair in the far corner of the living room. I have a PC with a 28 inch monitor in front of me, about fifty varieties of tobacco to the right, and a plastic rolling set of drawers where I keep my pipes, tools, and implements of destruction. Sounds cozy, right? Well, there are boxes all around in various stages of unboxing, and to the other side of the room are case after case of various storage goods that would make a prepper drool.
Now I have two pipes that are my morning pipes, the slowroll stack and the GBD Freehand. They are both manly sized bowls of smoking pleasure.
In front are some small aged jars with tobaccos I have tried once. They have over a year on them. Two of note are Bullseye Flake and LTF. Bully the Lionhearted disrupted my cypherin' and wanted to play pulltoy. I gave him a giant rawhide and he let daddy attend to his choosing issue. What to choose? Well...
I'm not sure what Xuan put in my coffee, but two sips into my decision making I got dizzy and started seeing and hearing things (you all thought that was my normal state of being). I'm seeing a bunch of crazily dressed people in tuxes and formals with tutus on the outside, doing the Time Warp. The elevator starts to descend and I am thinking if Frank n Furter shows up I'm gone. I didn't have a problem with the Time Warp, but Tim Curry might be a tad much. The music stops The elevator hits the floor and opens up. A shadowy character points to one of the jars that miraculously appeared. The music changes tunes and then out of the shadows Chubby Checker appears singing, C'mon David, Let's Do the Twist." I pass out. I wake up still in my birthday suit, Xuan is giving me the evil eye, knowing she put a spell on me. I try to remember what happened. Just then the LTF jar flies off the PC table and smacks me in...
I folded over two slabs, slices, or whatever. I stuff them into the GBD. Took a couple lights. I am here to tell you that if you ever see or have visions of Chubby Checker, break out the LTF and start twisting like you did last summer.
A couple puffs of this and I am in Virginia Nirvana. From the dark corners of Velvet to the jazzy flavor of LTF in one day! Just then I wake up seeing Xuan come after me with a butcher knife. I realized that I had already woken up twice, so I must have been in a dream within a dream within a dream... or was the butcher knife real? I breathe a sigh of relief as she handed me the knife and said "Here's the knife you wanted me to sharpen, hun." I had just gotten done hiding the goodies, too.
So, I go back to puffing as an ember floats off of the top of the load and floats down into my navel. That better not be a prophecy about... hold on... you got it... Luxury Naval Flake. I enjoyed the burning tingle and puffed some more. Now I was getting analytical. Here we go.
I did not get every note that is promised from this blend. I got some sweet tangy grass and some hay. I also got a sweet backflavor of coconut. I am going to call it that as it was more sweet than flavor. What made this tobacco unique for me was all of the flavors were at the same end of the rainbow. You're not getting a deep flavor. Even a cup of tea has some earthiness. I know people describe this, but I didn't quite get it. All the notes were in the same wavelength (thus the rainbow comment). All tightly woven.
Maybe the differences with others might be aging time, how much I aged, and temp fluc. So, I will stand by my lack of a few of the notes. However...
I liked this the way it was. If it had some lower depth to it I would probably like that as well. For this trip it is a light sweet wonder.
More joys to behold: It stayed lit till I got to the dottle. I relit it twice as it was so wonderful, and the dottle delivered more sweetness and flavor... totally absent in many tobaccos. It lasted a long time. Oh, and I only had 3/4 of a load. I now see why people like slices. I had not had much luck before, but folding/loading this was done with ease.
It did not burn hot, and though it gave you a tingly feeling, your tongue didn't get burnt. I cannot make an all day out of any straight VA, but I am not judging it on that.
I've given you all the positives to this. There are no negatives. Everything was totally groovy. 5 of 5 stars. Now I must go because I hear the dark voices from deep with my gray matter saying, "time is fleeting and madness takes control. Let's do the Lux Twist again!"
