Tonight, about dusk, a transformer blew in our neighborhood. Suddenly my plans for then evening changed. Since I could not use the computer, it was a golden opportunity to smoke a pipe. I carried a pipe, a candle stick, and some tobacco out to the garage. I did wander out to talk to our neighbors and they had called the power company. The power came back, a little after their estimate. I am really glad that I was not responsible to fix a transformer in the dark on a ladder!
Obviously, the power is back now.

Glad you were not without power for an extended time. But it gave you a chance to sit back and enjoy a pipe👍👍

Aaaannnddd..... that is why I have a generator. Can't count on anything these days. Good for the electric company getting that transformer done in record time.

Speaking of smoking pipes by candlelight. When I was a young teenager of 15, a friend of mine and I built wooden huts by a pond behind our house that my parents owned. It was a two story triangular ramshackle affair built between three trees. Anyway, we used to camp out in our huts (I had the upstairs one) and smoke our pipes by candlelight. It is a very timeless experience; you feel that you may be experiencing something that pipe smokers hundreds of years ago experienced.

Scott, tonight I intend on enjoy a pipe on the back deck and light a candle. I’ll enjoy the peace and sounds of Mother Nature 👍👍. My last pipe I had on the back deck there were two young hawks playing in the trees. With no heat or humidity I much prefer the outdoors for enjoying a pipe. Hope your having a wonderful Sunday!!! |

The dance and flicker of shadow and light can be entrancing. Throw in some weapons-grade high nicotine tobacco, and who knows what you might see.

I sit out on my porch nightly smoking by Coleman lantern light. I use the propane one during the summer and in the spring and fall I use the kerosene one cause it throws off some warmth and takes the chill out of the autumn evening!
