...just had a thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening phone chat with JimInks , and I HATE talking on the phone... evidence of the kind of guy Jim is... Thanks, man. I enjoyed our chat very much. I like talking on the phone, as some here will certainly attest to. I'm not much for messaging, which lacks the personal touch only a voice can bring.

Chatting in person with an online friend is nice ... I've connected with several over the years.

I had the pleasure a while back, Jim is never lost for words and we had a very pleasant conversation. We live in the same State, next year Iβd like to meet Jim in person and enjoy a pipe with him at the TAPS show in April. Last year I could not make the show....this year itβs on my bucket listπππ

When my health (not Xuan's) took a dip some months back, Jim offered to call after I had not posted in a couple days. I'm not big on phone, but The Man from I.N.K.S. is a hero and a joy to talk to.
A lot of things go on in the background that people don't see. Just because someone doesn't acknowledge gifts does not mean they have not been sent. Some people say not to mention it. Some receivers are a little shy about publicly thanking someone... and we, again, do not know what went on behind the scenes.
There's a lot more to TBP than what's on the surface

I know several people here, including myself, who prefer privacy on this subject. Nobody should assume somebody doesn't make acts of kindness because they aren't publicized. It's between the giver and receiver, and isn't anybody else's business. Making a judgement without facts is rather ignorant.

I've had a few "Listens" (Jinx talked and I listened), but not chats yet. Might have to give that a try next time. All kidding aside, Jim, and others here for that matter, are indeed quite pleasant to chat with on the phone and in person. Glad you had a chance to visit Martin. Jim is indeed a fun guy to converse with.

Jim talks with me on the phone because he likes to listen to the background sound of me frying eggs.

Not a phone guy, have wonky hearing so that doesn't help, nor does my introverted nature. But, I have to admit the occasional call from an old friend is truly a treasured event.

Jim's gregarious personality really made the miles fly by at night on my Southern California run, sadly the hours I work now, (and domestic duties) limit my ability to talk as much...I hope to see him in Vegas.
Larry, is another good guy to talk to also, a call is overdue.

I miss speaking on the phone with old friends. In this day and age, the only people I talk to on the phone are my own parents, and the inlaws. That won't last too many more years, just by virtue of human frailty. We all die.
My friends under sixty can hardly be bothered, unless something has gone terribly wrong.

I'm fairly certain that those of us who choose the culture of "Pipe Smoking" are a relatively small group, and it saddens me when one or more of us gets mixed up in some disagreement... seems important to me that we all support each other...

Some people who come here treat it like a gamers forum, and being the old fart that I am I occasionally let one of them get my goat. I will try to have better control in the future. I feel like this is a "gentleman's club" (and Lady Margaret), and I detest anti social behavior. Especially when it's by me.
