My mouth is fire proof, but I usually use my tongue to catch the smoke. And on the burned mouth, try having warm milk and honey that might help.

Normally a few days should do it. But if you've burned it good then wait maybe a week or more if you want 100% healing... And then either change your tobacco or your smoking technique.
We have something called orabase in the UK that aids healing of mouth 'injuries'. It works well.

Slow down! A small sip every 10-15 seconds is what you’re shooting for. And dry your tobacco a bit more. Maybe avoid Virginia tobaccos for a bit.

If it persists longer than 4 days, you may have thrush. It feels just like a pipe-burned mouth and the method of treatment is with "Magic Mouthwash", available by prescription from your doctor.

When I get a burn, I find ice cream helps...plus, you have a reason to eat ice cream. I’m low carb, so I love Halo Top!

I takes as long as it takes, were all different. I would suggest drying your tobacco out more to eliminate the problem.

I know how to smoke a pipe, so I never have this problem. Follow the suggestions given viz a viz drying out your tobacco, packing lighter, and smoking slower, and you should not continue to experience mouth burns. The exception is the occasional reaction due to body chemistry.

Have you seriously considered just giving up smoking?

Neosporin. Tastes a little funny, but you'll get used to it. (OK Before anyone decides to eat unguent, it's a joke people) They make an "Ophthalmic" for Neosporin that is safe for use in the mouth. It's actually the exact same as the regular but just labeled differently. But I would probably just use some aloe vera juice.

In addition to smoke slower and other recommendations above, you might also want to drink something that helps coat your mouth while you smoke. Like coffee with cream, or even tea with honey.

All of the above posssibilitys are good. Before giving them a try I would not smoke for at least 7 days to truly give you mouth a chance to heal. Smoking before things heal no matter what you do technique wise is only going to fail. Be patient, your body is injured and needs to heal!

How did you burn your mouth with steam? Whenever I get a case of the allergies or smokers sore throat I switch to snus for a few days to a week and that normally resolves the problem

If Jesse gets the 5000 I believe I deserve a promotional and advertising fee we can discuss the details. Don't hold the pipe in your mouth clenching, only sip the pipe like drinking through a soda straw. count under your breath to say 15 in between sips. You might have to vary that number to suit your style as long as the pipe stays lit most of the time you can take your time. Unlike a cigarette a pipe is more about setting a slow cadence to enjoy the flavor. Run a pipe cleaner into the stem once in a while if it comes out wet more drying time may be in order.

I also know but sometimes I don't have the patience.
I also like big clouds.
A water connection or freeze pipe would cool off the smoke. Just need something that connects to a traditional pipe so people don't mistakingly think it's dope!

Just a warning, but there's more to that mouth irritation than just the heat of the smoke/steam. It can be a combination of the pH sensitivity of your mouth and a particular blend, and sometimes a blend will just produce an irritating smoke, like fresh-ish burley and its alkaline vapor hell. That said, to cool things down a little, look into churchwardens (long stems give a slightly cooler smoke), and calabash and reverse-calabash designs. The latter two rely on large chambers sitting somewhere between the bowl and the stem, where the smoke can swirl and perhaps cool down or drop a bit of moisture.

A true Calabash pipe is probably the coolest smoke you can get. Kirsten pipes are also very cool. If the aluminum body gets too hot to hold you have to put it down. Watching "Solo" the other day I burned my hand during one of the chase scenes. 😨💩😭
