Having read several reviews of thsi blend I might give it a try. It's supposed to be a close if not an exact match to McC's 5100 RC which was one of my faves and probably one of the best Red va's blended . Any one here tried this and if so what are your imppresions?

It's not a match to 5100 by any means but a decent Red Va by its own merits. Probably will age nicely and makes a great blending tobacco.

McClleland's 5100 has now reached unicorn status. So, nothing will compare. But, I've gone deep on Sutliff 515 RC and enjoy it now, and hope to enjoy it more in the future with some age. Whether to blend or smoke straight, I recommend 515. (Invariably, comparisons of 515 to 5100 are inevitable as Sutliff branded this as a Red Cake match. But, as someone who still has a full tobacco store sized jar of 5100, I say forget 5100 and get some 515 RC.)

I bought a pound of 515 RC on a flyer and I'm glad I did. I'm adding it to the "buy more" list.

I'll have to buy some for a blending base given these reports.

When I first smoked this straight, I didn't much care for it. Then I found a moisture level where it opened up for me and found myself smoking it all day. I've been using it as a blender and am very happy with it.

I bought 8 ounces when it first came out. I planned to try it, but I ended up jarring it all. I’ve only seen favorable feedback. Next month, Sutliff will be releasing a red cake and a red cake with Perique. I’m also curious about them. While no one can replicate them, It’s nice to see Sutliff trying to fill the (McClelland) void. They’re also releasing an English Kake with the same red Virginia. JimInks Did you find the red VA fresh or matured?

515 RC-1 is excellent tobacco. It's almost enough to make you forget about the loss of McClelland.
Almost.
