I'm in San Diego right now for a Finance conference, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good pipe and tobacco shop around these aprts? I don't know that I will have time to stop by, but if I do, I'd like to hit one up. Thanks!

San Diego has an insanely cool shop in the tourist trap "old town," Racine and Laramie. It's at least as much museum as actual pipe/cigar shop. They have an unbelievable collection of tobacciana on display. There's also a fair number of pipes for sale and a walk-in humidor. I don't remember what their pipe tobacco selection looks like.
Old Town itself is fairly dull, but Racine and Laramie is worth a trip out of your way.

Jeff Gracie of J. Alan pipes makes pipes in San Diego, he does outstanding work, his prices reflect that. pipedia.org/wiki/J._Alan_PipesIf you Google, you can get his Facebook and Twitter if you are so inclined. Shane Ireland of Smokingpipes.com is a native San Diego boy, and is pretty quick on email responses, he will point you in the right direction.... I think the tobacconist mentioned earlier is one of his old hangouts.

Thanks! exbenedict When I lived in the Santa Clarita area (Los Angeles County, CA), I would have some investigations in San Diego County to attend to, and a few friends to lite-up with too. One of the best shops (and there are two) is Liberty Tobacco: libertytobacco.com/If you're in their area or close to one of their locations, check them out. A lot of good folks hang-out there. Now... Nothing wrong with Racine and Laramie. They are located in Old Town, and you may be closer to this location: www.racineandlaramie.com/Great atmosphere, they have some in-house aromatic blends, and a supply of commercial tinned blends. The last time I was there (a few years back), a number of folks were hanging-out in the back room area smoking cigars and pipes. Hope you're enjoying your stay in beautiful San Dee Eggo
