I’m away from home for a few days on business. The four hour drive yesterday afforded some good smoking time and today after my work I stopped by my favorite B&M, Cigar Chateau in east Wichita, to avail myself of their very comfortable smoking lounge. Of course I planned to buy some tobacco and asked for suggestions. I was recommended a tin of Esoterica Dunbar and Rattray’s Dark Fragrant. As I was walking to the register, I spotted a foil pack on a lower shelf. I pulled out an 8oz pack of Penzance. The tobacconist said, “oh, you can’t go wrong with that one. In fact, I’m surprised we have any left. We only get around three packs at a time.” As I was paying up, a guy came in, looking for tobacco and asked about Penzance...the tobacconist just said, “we don’t get much in at a time and never know for sure when it’s coming.” Count me a lucky guy.
I’ll smoke some when I get home and can jar up 6oz or so.

That's like a scene from Charlie and the chocolate factory...the shimmer of the metal...you got the golden ticket there, buddy.

Take the Penzance straight to eBay. There is no point in falling in love with something most can never even get a tin of. Also, enjoy the Dunbar. Probably my favourite tobacco.

Call around B&Ms. Unicorns aren't as rare as etailers would have you believe. These were ordered from one B&M a few months back.

I concur that the market is a better place for the Penzance than your pipe.
I haven't smoked it but of all the Eso blends I've smoked I have yet to smoke one that I've thought commanded even a quarter of the market value.
If I found a bag of Penzance in my possession I wouldn't think twice about turning it into a couple (or more) pounds of tobacco I really loved already.

The shop did have a little bit of McClelland Vanilla Black Cavendish but I passed on that. That might be a resale candidate as well, or maybe your next to best pipe;)

I really like the position that tobacco rarity or the magical unicorns have put the B & M shops in. They took a big hit with the rise of internet sales. They deserve their time. I have a local honey pot that has Penzance and Stonehaven in stock almost every time that I stop by. The owner is a wonderful older widow whom I visit with every time that I stop by. I gladly give her my money lol.

Long after the internet obsession with Esoterica fades, those B&Ms will still have reliable customers who demand it.
The distributors know it, too.
Better to serve the long-time customers than some whackadoos from reddit who heard Penzance tastes like angels dancing in your oral cavity.
