Guess it’s similar when airlines overbook a flight and you show up only to get bumped. Look at it this way...” both you and I, and I’m sure many others got bumped “! Pipes & Leaf over sold what was actually in stock, very poor way to do business. I’ve alread removed them from my browsers bookmarks. I have enough Esoterica tobacco’s to last for quite some time👌👍👍 Maybe but I don't believe it was out of stock. I'm sure other Sobranies were sold after my attempted order(s). I think if it had been out of stock he would likely have simple emailed "it's out of stock" rather than make up some weird thing about the card not being accepted (over and over during a back and forth of several emails), when the bank statement clearly showed it was. I think he was "picking and choosing" who would get product and who wouldn't, possibly on the basis of .... your name? the items in your cart? that's what i don't get... Just how many orders have you placed with Pipe & Leaf prior.was surely part of the deal. |

I only got one bag, so I'm guessing they didn't like people trying to order a lot. (They shoulda just set a 1 tin/bag limit if that's the case) |

I ordered three different blends. I wouldn’t order any two of the same so I could leave for other pipe smokers. My order was placed at 12:04pm, just after I noticed the post.

I ordered three different blends. I wouldn’t order any two of the same so I could leave for other pipe smokers. My order was placed at 12:04pm, just after I noticed the post. The OP shouldn’t feel bad, definitely not his fault. 👍👍👍 Peretti will just hang up on you and lie about stock sometimes when you order eso/Germains over the phone. "Chasing" these hard to find blends is kinda pointless seeing as how many tobaccos there are out there for less effort, i only ordered because I've never seen ramsgate in stock to be frank. |

Very true. The silver lining is that these experiences at least show tobacco retailers in their true light. Hearing the same bad experiences over and over about Pipe and Leaf or LJ Peretti's or whoever is something I remember when making a tobacco/pipe purchase. |

I found this which may explain what happened in my case i.e. it appearing to have gone through on the bank side but then being canceled at the merchant side. It would seem, though, that if it wasn't intentional that the merchant's "payment gateway" that Pipe and Leaf was using has ridiculously outdated information about my address etc, since the bank has all my updated information. This never happens to me, and I make lots of tobacco purchases online.
"The merchant is telling you the transaction was declined, and your bank is telling you it has been approved. Yes, your bank approved the transaction but the merchant's payment gateway declined the transaction so the entire transaction was declined even though your bank approved it. Merchant's payment gateway may have security settings which may have triggered a decline such as address and zip code verification. It is the way how the banks operate, so it's not your fault nor merchant's fault."

"Chasing" these hard to find blends is kinda pointless seeing as how many tobaccos there are out there for less effort, i only ordered because I've never seen ramsgate in stock to be frank. I’m done as far as Esoterica tobacco’s.....will not attempt to order again. I have enough, plus many other fine tobacco’s 👍👍👍 I've got all I'll need for a long time (as I don't smoke too much). Got some Gawith and Hoggarth Balkan mix in the mail last night (never seen anyone talk of it before), the mix of orientals and cyprian was truly perfect for an oaky smoke blend. It was the closest to that campfire smell I've had yet, but was still delicate. Very good buy. |

I’ve kept all my Dunbar and Dorchester in the cellar. Selling the rest off. I’m not hunting anymore, even the trophies. Done and on to the next one.

Definitely no apologies necessary. I appreciate your post👌👍👍 I placed an order right around lunchtime. It kept getting canceled. I emailed to ask why and the owner said that "the address doesn't match up with the records at the bank." I went into my bank website and copy-pasted the address, word-for-word into the purchasing fields. Still canceled. Used my wife's card. Canceled. I took a look at my bank statement and the purchases had in fact been accepted and gone through, but the owner manually canceled them after the fact, each and every time. I emailed to ask if I could call and place an order over the phone. All I got was "no" as a response. I still don't know what to think, but it was deliberate and insulting on his part. What I can't wrap my head around is "why?" there were probably 300 people just like you. I am sure he/she was overwhelmed. If their web platform was overselling things they did not have I imagine overwhelmed and extremely frustrated. No one can excel at customer service when 500 people contact you all at the exact same time only once or twice a year on completely random days when shipments arrive. I am sure the revenue helps them but at the same time it must be an absolute nightmare. |

I know on one of my websites if things are not setup correctly it will continue selling after the inventory is at 0. If a couple 100 people were ordering at once I would probably blow a fuse trying to straighten it out. Technology isnt always user friendly. If it makes you feel any better I dont have any Tilbury! Lol |
