On occasion I like to frequent casinos (sadly didn’t win this trip). Yesterday I went to get out of the house while my soon to be teenage daughter had some friends over. My Casino Pipe is a now repaired, with a Serling band, Paul’s Cayuga mini OOM Paul”ish” pipe. Great to clench and while out in public I smoke Pauls Arrowhead blend. I had 3 different people comment on it. First one was a gentleman in his 60’s that said he had not seen someone smoking a pipe in years and thought it was “nice to see”. Second one smoking a cigar, said he also smoked a pipe but chooses cigars at Casino so he doesn’t have to fiddle with it while gambling. (Also so him dump about 500 in a video poker machine while sowing by my count 4 rum and cokes in about an hour ). Last was a women who complimented the room note while she chain smoked cigarettes. Pipe I took

Very nice looking sitter👌👍👍. I smoke often in public and parks where permitted. Never heard a negative comment, quite the opposite.....many have complimented on the aroma or the pipe I was smoking at the time.

A very nice sitter. I love seeing peoples reaction when I smoke in public. I smoke in the car on the way to work and I am a clenched so I get some double takes from people.

Really cool pipe, man. Most bars here in Pittsburgh are still smoker-friendly. The casino is too. Funny a guy has to gamble or get drunk in order to have a social smoke anymore. Haha

Haha Yup casinos only place in Michigan now you can smoke indoors.* When I was a cig smoker, it drove me crazy that I walk into a bar and have to go outside to smoke. *there a VERY few exceptions but for 99% of time no smoking in any building now. EDIT please do NOT make this a taboo topic about smoking laws, politics etc...i know I replied and got close to that line, sorry about that.

Over the 20 years I have lived in northern New Mexico, I have not seen another pipe smoker.
Pipes are suspicious apparently. I attended a meeting of our Neighborhood Watch with a peep in a shirt pocket. A NM State Police Patrolman kept staring at it. I explained "Tobacco". Not sure if he believed me. LOL!

Other than Josh, I haven't seen the first pipe or pipe smoker (redundant).

I've smoked pipe off and on since I was a teen. I'm 37 now and have yet to meet another pipesmoker outside of a forum or my local tobacconist. Well... My little brother and a friend of his smoke occasionally. But you get my point. Honestly, I can't believe blenders and pipemakers still bother. Seems like a labor of love, rather than a lucrative business.

I think my neighbors think I'm smoking pot at times, which is actually decriminalized in Pittsburgh, so there's no reason to clarify with them. Hahaha

Down here I’ve had deputy sheriffs notice I’m smoking a pipe, so far I’ve never been questioned.....oh would I enjoy being questioned 👌👍👍

Unless I'm asked not to or it's posted No Smoking, I smoke anywhere I want. I have a neighbor that lives one house down from me that smokes a pipe ( he smokes Carter Hall and has 4 Dr.Grabows that he's smoked for 60 years ) and he walks his little Scotty every night and smokes a pipe while they walk. There are two big Live Oak trees down the street from me and every other day one of the cops that patrols our neighborhood parks under them and has an afternoon smoke in a pipe. He 's strictly a GBD smoker and has been for the last 40 years and he's smoked Granger for almost as long. These are the only pipe smokers I've seen "outside" in a city of over 400,000 ! I'm sure there are others I just haven't run into them.

I've seen a few in Ireland; not often, mind you. It seems in certain circles there are more pipe smokers than in others.
When I was in theological college, there were about 10-15 pipe smokers.
When I was in uni doing my chemistry degrees there weren't any.

Went to Lowe’s Foods this morning to pick up a few items. I pulled up smoking one of my pipes puffing away, smoke billowing out of the drivers side window. To my left is a gentleman smoking a pipe while sitting in his SUV, he noticed me so I waved and said “ good morning “, absolutely no response from him.....very odd personality for a pipe smoker. When I returned to my car he was still parked in the same spot and looked towards me when I relit my pipe then looked away.....” an odd duck “!!

One of the things that I enjoy about my business trips to Europe is that I never get a double take when someone sees me walking down the street smoking a pipe. I also spot another pipe smoker every day or two when I am out and about.

I’m in my mid 50s and sit age wise on the dividing line between the older generation of pipe smokers and the younger generation of pipe smokers. The older generation, for the most part, just happily smoke their pipes. They don’t view it as a "hobby" or something to collect or feel a need to constantly try a new blend or build up a cellar or talk about pipes on the Internet or ... The Internet active pipe smoker/collector/hobbyist is actually a small minority among the older generation of pipe smokers. My father-in-law was the perfect example. He chain smoked his one pipe until it eventually burnt out from use and got another one with no thought to it other than keeping the cost down. He’d buy cheap tobacco by the pound. When the bag was almost gone, he’d go to the store and buy another one. So, I would not expect another random pipe smoker that I encounter to want to be friendly and discuss pipes just because they see me smoking one. While I do think that they should, I don’t expect it because us pipe hobbyists are really a minority of a minority.

On more than one occasion, when we have our pipe club meetings, a few of us have seen guys come in looking at the bulk tobacco’s, we approach them and tell them about the pipe club, and you get a vibe really quick that tells you it was a mistake to approach the guy.... there are jerks everywhere. Simnettpratt has a bad experience with a jerk pipe smoker at a pub in Texas when he tried to do the same. I am guessing that these guys are the “solitary pipe smoking, get off my lawn” type guys. I don’t approach any pipe smokers anymore unless it is obvious they are giving a nod or the body language is right... life is too short to deal with crackerheads.

I don’t know where you are in northern NM, but there is an active pipe club in Albuquerque. I know of two pipe makers who frequent that club: Don Gillmore of Don Warren Pipes and Victor Rimkus.

I have excellent peripheral vision, he watched me the entire time, going and coming.....especially when I re-lit my pipe outside the car. I’m already over it......lol

I worked in...also sad because he had to keep working when he should have been home resting his butt, like me.

I hear you Ted, we weren’t seeking to get any pipe club converts, or looking for a buddy, just letting them know we existed and what we are about.
I really don’t think that should cause one to act like they were exposed to a leper.... one guy actually seemed that way.
